The woman served an 18-month prison sentence for the offense and no, of course the child wasn't released back to her. Also in Malaysia they have enough common sense not to return a child to a parent that has proven no to be fit to be called parent or act as a parent. She will probably never get this child back, unless she proves she's fit enough to once again be a parent after intensive psychological guidance. Serves her right.
After the trouble caused by the video they may be reluctant to reveal when she is released ? But as you can see from my link the baby is with a foster family. I would not have thought the baby would be returned to her ?
The gal filming was a friend and she was filming to show the police what she has been seeing her 18 year old friend do to her (the 18 year old mother) baby. The video was taken to the police that same day and the mother was arrested. They say she might get the baby back if she hasn't already. They didn't say her release date. Foster cares' goal is to reunite the family when it is safe. I know this because I am becoming a foster parent myself. They usually give the parent(s) one year to do all the court ordered things and then they try to reintroduce the child back with it's mom and dad or in this case just mom. So the mother will most likely have to go through a bunch of court ordered classes and psych evals. and if she is seen fit, she gets her kid back. I personally feel that if any child ends up in foster care because they have been beaten and emotionally abused, they should never go back to their parents but it isn't my choice and there really is nothing we can do about it.
I can only hope she was beaten in prison
The woman filming was her friend. The others watching were children. Who's? We might not know. The friend who had witnessed this behavior before started filming her friend and released the video to the police. Say what you will about her for not intervening but she was responsible for the arrest. According to UK news article The mother only served 1.5 years jail time. The girl was sent to a foster home. After her release she was eligible to regain custody of her child. In January 2014 an online petition on Change.org was circulated and is now closed.
Due to the nature of the crime it is a child protection case and the mother's name wasn't released to protect the children's identity. It would be difficult to obtain any follow up, but it is not safe to assume that she would not now or in the future regain custody.
Family Law rules globally are there to protect mother and child. Also if mother fails then she is to gain as much support needed to get help. Where is dad in all of this? This is why family law needs reform globally and extended family such as responsible aunts, uncles, grandparents and foster parents should follow biological parents in consideration for custody in the best interests of the child.
In May of 2011 a Malaysian mother was recorded beating her 10 month old baby. She was arrested and was given an 18 month jail term. It is now Jan 2014. What has happened to this horrible person. I hope and pray she was not allowed to have this child back. I hope this little one is with a very loving family!!!!!!!!!!!!
