The old 7 World Trade Center was much better known to New Yorkers as the Salomon Brothers Building. Had it survived the building would have been restored had it been within economical repair. As it is a new 7 World Trade Center building was built on the same site to a new and much improved design, the name denoting the address. It opened in 2006 IIRC.

Why? They call the building that replaced it WTC 7, right? It actually has a street address, but that's what people call it conversationally.

And the new WTC buildings are One, Two, Three and Four...they might have a Five and Six someday, who knows!

WTC7 did survive the 9/11 attack. If what you say happened, then modern buildings built to modern standards would be collapsing all over the world every day of the week. The ‘old’ Solomon building was completed in 1987. A modern building by anyone’s standards. It didn’t survive what happened afterwards.

I always remember the brass plaque on the wall of the lift lobby in the World Trade Centre in the eighties. It was about two and a half feet wide by two feet deep and declared that the buildings were built to withstand a direct hit by a 747 with an engraving of the twin towers and a plane going towards it. I’ll never forget it. It made you feel safe before you entered the lifts. Funny how I haven’t heard anything about it since.

If it had survived without major damage it would have been repaired, and the rebuilding plan for Ground Zero would have taken it into account. It's probable it would have been renamed, but it might not have been to act as a permanent memorial.

I'm just curious if for some reason the firefighters managed to put out the fires in the building of WTC 7 before any major damage was done , what would they do with WTC 7 after all the other World Trade Center buildings were gone , would they have to rename it or something?
