The Problem:
Consider the possibility of a day when anything from a 750-yard meteor
to a CME of ELE proportions hits the Earth.
Electronics and the electricity which empowers them can never be "guaranteed".
In the aftermath of a 'Global Catastrophe', books will always be there --
even when the lights go out for a few weeks and there is no way to
recharge anything electronic.
Reading, Writing and 'Rithmetic = Every reason to keep books.
Why should anyone have to choose?
There's advantages to having both.
E-books are handy and e-book readers have ever-increasing storage capacity.
Actual books just feel good. And there's nothing like the scent of an old book store or library.
Plus actual books don't need recharging, continue to work after the power goes out, and can be used for a variety of purposes in an emergency.
(i.e.: a source of emergency toilet paper, pages used to start camp fires, pages crumpled up and stuffed into clothes for insulation in cold weather, and etc.)
You certainly can't do all that with an e-book.
No. A mix is best.
But what we need is scientific editors who know what objective prose and poetry look like.
There are too many bad thinkers getting published; and they didn't all need to kill tree s or take up time on the internet to force them on people who would prefer better writers and fewer of them.
I'm sure in the future a lot of things will be published online--but works that satisfy a large buyership will be offered in a printed form for more permanent use, along with reference works, maps, works of volumes, histories etc. Short works can be enjoyed on a kindle, etc.
No, I just like the aesthetics of a book and I'm not a big fan of technology. Books are less likely to have glitches than electronics. o-o
No, never. Books are much more valuable than electronic readers. You can go back to them any time to retrieve information much easier than with an E reader.
I love my Kindle for it's ease of use but I would never give up my books.
No. You can drop books over the side of the bed without breaking them.
Old books are collectible... old electronics are just garbage.
