It's a good life lesson. Next time someone tells you something that they heard, don't automatically believe them. Ask for the facts and if they don't have them, dismiss it or google it. But don't believe everything you read on the internet either. News sites you have heard of are best (nytimes, usatoday, msn) because some "news" sites are just weird stuff for sensationism's sake.

So good luck with developing a healthy sense of skepticism. Things like "I know when the end of the world is coming" should ring a bell in your head that says "How can anyone know that? It sounds ridiculous. Before I believe that, I need to check it out first."
