They attacked the WTC (World Trade Center, the Twin Towers) because the terrorists thought that the towers symbolized how prosperous America was, and they attacked the Pentagon because it was (and is) the ultimate American symbol of military power.
Basically, Al-Qaeda thought that if they destroyed these important buildings that America would be filled with widespread fear, making the Middle Eastern and Islamic worlds all the more respected.

The US government released a policy document two years before the events: the document was entitled "Project for a New American Century"(PNAC). There is just too much evidence now that suggests an inside job: the fact that ALL THE WRECKAGE WAS SHIPPED ABROAD as soon as possible, the fact that even ROLLS ROYCE themselves have said that the engine recovered at the Pentagon WAS NOT the type of engine used on the type of plane (b757) that was said to be responsible. In September 1991, shortly after the end of the Cold War, a cabal of elite bankers and intelligence spooks, led by George H.W. Bush, financed a (USD)$240 billion cover-up operations war chest through the purchase of 10-year securities that, as it happened, was scheduled to become due on September 12, 2001. At 8:46 in the morning of September 11, Flight 11 flew directly into Marsh & McLennan Secure Computer Room in the North Tower, right below the floor on which Cantor Fitzgerald was situated. Cantor Fitzgerald was the largest security dealer in the U.S. Shortly after that, a massive explosion went off, just under the FBI offices in the North Tower on the 23rd floor. Fires were reported on the 22nd floor at 8:47. There were also explosions and subsequent fires reported at Garban-Intercapital on the 25th floor and in the basement of Tower One as well. Shortly thereafter, at 9:03, Flight 175 hit the South Tower, right below the floor on which Eurobrokers were situated. In all 3 cases, the explosive fiery destruction consumed the offices and the several floors above, destroying files and trapping victims inside. The Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) had opened investigations into the 'Project Hammer' fund and their offices had been moved to a recently 'rennovated' outer 'E' Ring of the Pentagon which was directly hit by Flight 77. Also destroyed were Pentagon's financial offices who had been busy trying to find the missing $2.3 trillion in defense spending. The only backup of this data was in WTC 7.
WTC 6 was destroyed by an explosion that took place before either tower fell. The secondary explosion took out a portion of the building which just happened to include the El Dorado Task Force offices. The El Dorado Task Force was an inter-agency money-laundering watchdog group, responsible for coordinating all major money-laundering investigations in the U.S. In the immediate aftermath of September 11, these groups would be redirected to investigate terrorist financing.
So what happened? Essentially, a critical mass of brokers from the major corporate security brokerages in the Twin Towers had to be eliminated to create chaos in the government securities market. A situation need to be created where the US$240 billion of covert securities could be electronically cleared without anyone asking questions.
On September 14, the Securities and Exchange Commission declared a national emergency and for the first time in U.S. history, invoked its emergency powers under the Securities Exchange Act, Section 12(k) and eased regulatory restrictions for clearing and selling security trades for the next 15 days. These changes would have allowed the estimated $240 billion in covert government securities to be cleared upon maturity, without the standard regulatory controls around the identification of ownership. The towers need to be demolished to create a big enough mess that the illicit activities taking place behind the scenes that morning could be hidden in the confusion of that day.
But the attacks served many purposes. They provided justification for two lucrative wars which resulted in increased control of opium profits. World governments strive to control drug profits because of the liquid cash they generate, which can be used to stabilize capitalist economies.
They also enabled the formation of several new government agencies, (civilian military, DHS), TSA and it allowed them to greatly expand their domestic spying program. Essentially on track to transform the country into an Orwellian police state by 2020.
9/11 is truly one of the worst things to happen to Americas, and it was definitely done by not just the American government, but many world governments conspired to reap the benefits of this tragedy, mainly Israel, U.K. and Saudi Arabia. Muslims had nothing to do with it, and had no idea it was going to happen. Of course it was terrible for them.
Of course you can believe what the cable news told you, but I've always believed that the victims of the tragedy deserve the real truth. And that is why I have told it.
Primary reason - Owner was obliged to remove asbestos from Towers.
You see, the leaseholder of the Towers was served with a legal notice that his Towers needed to be made free of asbestos and a deadline was given. The cost of this task was going to be astronomical and so rather than spend the money complying with a legal notice he decided he'd rather find a more cost-effective way of doing things. Now, if the owner just decided to demolish the buildings then it'd cost him even more than removing the asbestos, so now, how do you demolish the buildings AND get paid for it? Either an accident had to occur OR a deliberate act of vandalism
Secondary reason - Creating a climate of fear at home and an irrational hatred for the target - Middle east and Africa. Aim - Capture the oil and opium, increase military bases and stronghold on region. NWO.
Enter the US Government. I don't know who contacted who about bringing the Towers down with planes but I would presume that it was the Government to the owner lest the owner get arrested and charged with conspiracy. Obviously well aware of the owners' dilemma the powers that be constructed the plan, provided funding and the cover story and everyone agreed that once the insurance pays out they all get a slice of the pie. Unfortunately for them the Supreme Court ruled that the insurance company only had to pay a single sum for both Towers and not pay per Tower contrary to the plans drawn up for Operation 9/11.
Other reasons - To get public support for laws that allow the suppression of American citizens' human rights at home, the curtailing of the rights of foreign nationals (see Guantanamo Bay) and to enable the US Government to increase spending of tax payers' money on weaponry, bombs and aircraft.
Because they're the 'bad guys' and Americans are the 'good guys'. Americans were thought to be 100% pure evil and they wanted to show us good. The joke was on them because America can never be defeated in a million billion years in anything! Especially making money.
No one really knows the thinking of evil people but I have heard it said one reason was revenge for Palestine,but we will never know properly.
