Because it is a collection of all the sports that can't support a professional league.
With a few exceptions, any sport which has a viable pro league isn't worth watching in the olympics. You don't look the the olympics for the best basketball team or the best tennis player. Other than boxing, due to the corruption of that sport's professional leagues, you find little of interest in watching sports nobody even plays.
I'm actually surprised you find them boring! There are 200 countries participating and 10500 athletes competing in 302 events in 25 different sports! They are the biggest sports competition majority of the people compete in. You really should tell WHY you find them boring, because there is no right answer for it since you don't state WHY you dislike them. But I do agree that for someone who doesn't like sports it's painful to survive the next weeks without having to mention the Olympics. Personally I will watch them and enjoy! I hope you will find something fun to do while the competition is!
I think football is boring but a lot of other people don,t it is the same with the Olympics some find them boring some don,t human nature.
The Olympics are not boring but all the hype before and the torch thing in the news day in day out is very boring
A lot of people, including myself, find them very exciting. So nobody can just hop into your brain and be like "Oh, yeah, that's why you think they're boring!" This is a stupid question... I love the olympics and get excited when it's about time they start going on! :) They are awesome!

It's all a matter of personal taste. Personally, I can't think of anything more boring than American football. 6 seconds of running and pushing followed by 2 minutes of standing around. Repeat this adnausium for 3 or 4 hours and you have a football game.

Apart from the everlasting re-plays,the dreadful thing is that any entertainment programmes will be cut.
