War in one form or another has consumed this rugged and mysterious land for centuries. There has always been a "Mad Mahdi" my Grandfather fought him while he was in a Yorkshire regiment in the late 19th century. They didn't call them terrorists in those days.
I don't think they really have finance as we know it in the west.The people seem to live off the land and with their Turbans no-one knows if anyone is a rebel or not. I think it will be like that in another couple of hundred years,perhaps that's how the people want it ?
Afghanistan is considered the poorest country in the world. It was mainly affected by the war with the Soviets in the 80s and it didnt improve under the Taliban government. Im not sure what its like now
