Is mailing letters to random adresses illegal?

It's not weird, nice, or cool. it's spam, it's unoriginal like all other chain letters, which, are all stupid.

Read why chain letters are bad here, all four parts.

I suggest you stick to emailing people you know and not try to get more stupid virals going. A lot of people are really sick of this kruft and the net doesn't need any more cheesy impersonal canned quotes. Scrap this awful, unoriginal idea. don't contribute to the internet trash heap by adding more to the circulation of junk.

Chain letters are illegal, no matter the actual content.

Weird, yes. Illegal, no.

You must not mail anything that may cause distress or concern. That would be illegal.

I think it would be cool to start something sort of like a chain letter, but in the mail. I want to mail a letter with a drawing, a quote or something nice to a random adress with a note attached saying they have to mail something random but nice to another random adress. Is this weird? is this illegal?
