I don't think so. They get three meals a day, a warm bed, and shelter. Do you know how many innocent people in the world aren't that fortunate? It's in the billions. Yet so many folks are so wrapped up with how comfortable triple murderers, gangsters, and dope dealers ought to be. That we don't line them up before a firing squad or slip a rope around their necks is generous enough I think. Our communities and the whole of society in general is a better place without them.
They can be redeemed sitting right where they are. They can stitch clothing, make toys for children and other things useful towards charity. There's many things they can do to give back a little, but they cannot be trusted to roam free again. Crimes such as we're speaking of carry with them a particularly deep sort of horrifying quality that prevents them from ever attaining the most rudimentary level of trust by society. Plainly stated, a person can just go too far.
All the remorse in the world cannot undo the atrocity they planned and committed, an act of barbarity designed to make others live in fear of similar terrorist attacks - a claim they repeated when being sent down.
Many if not most would want them to have rthe death penalty - as I do.
I don't regard a full lifetime jail sentence as 'inhumane' . Hopefully Adebojola WILL in time realise the enormity of this horrific slaying, but I don't think that should ever justify his release - to enjoy freedom Lee Rigby never will.
It's tough to answer this, but it is obvious that if there was no threat of a life sentence more people would do crimes with that in the back of their heads.
It's a bit of an extreme example, but If I told you robbing a bank would only be 2 days in prison, you'd probably be more likely to try it than you normally would.
No it is not inhumane . I sorry but i believe when someone chooses to take another person life they lose their human rights. What about the victims and there families right. Murders don't show humanity to there victims or there family. Being young is no excuses Lee Rigby was a young man who was just walking down a street when he was violently attacked and brutal murdered . His poor family will have to live the rest of their lives know how he was cruel taken from them. I which we still have the death penaty for people like them but as we don't i beleieve they both should have got life sentence .
There are a few cases, such as yesterday's and today's verdicts, where the whole life tariff is appropriate. However it doesn't seem unreasonable to review the situation at 25, 50 and possibly 75 years, to confirm it is still necessary.
Whole life terms are perfectly acceptable, since the victim (s) won't get a chance of release.
They'll be dead forever.
If civilised society has no stomach for the death penalty, there needs to be the whole-life tariff to uphold the law & deter others.
Those who will die behind bars after receiving this sentence only have themselves to blame.
When you talk about chances remember the dead person has no chance of coming back to life and in certain cases, such as this, the perpetrators are guilty of such a hideous remorseless crime they do not deserve anyhting less than the death penalty.
No. They are wholly appropriate is most cases. If you had lost a loved one in a similar manner to the Lee Rigby killing you may think differently. If these maniacs were ever released they would seek to kill again without any doubt. Would you like them living next door to you? I think not.
They really should swing,so yes in comparison they are very humane. Please remember for every killer either hung or imprisoned for life there is at least one innocent victim, perhaps a child ?
Having said that I cant see it being long before the Europe court of criminals rights lay down the law to our own courts about whole sentences. America can sentence as they wish, but we cant ??
Some crimes are horrendous beyond belief, but does that mean we give the person no chance at all to seek redemption?
The obvious example are the killers of Lee Rigby. Those idiots are obviously just a couple of hood rats turned to the extreme version of Islam as a "justifiable" (to themselves) outlet for their violent behaviour.
But because they're young, it's not unreasonable to suggest that at some point, they will realise just how stupid they were.
No! If someone is sentaced to whole life then its because they deserve it. Lee Rigbys killers should never get out and they deserve to know fear everyday. How do you think his family feel? They will suffer a whole life sentence
Just because they possibly might 'realise just how stupid they were' means nothing. What they did to get that sentence was inhumane so they should rot in jail.
No, they're fine. It's inhumane to drive in to an unarmed person who is minding their own business and then hack him to death with a butcher knife and then fire at police officers who are attending the incident.
THAT'S INHUMANE
Jail terms in general are inhumane. There's better systems of rehabilitation than just locking up perfectly good working machines. If they don't want to work, drop them into the meat grinder.
Is slaughtering another human being inhumane? Reap and sow, reap and sow.
No of course not, some people are too dangerous to be let out.
They should get out only after the people they killed are alive again. Period.
