The Taliban in Afghanistan welcomed Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda to stay in Afghanistan. They were not technically related, but they had enough in common that the Taliban was willing to protect them from UN and other enemies.

Osama bin laden was not directly related to Taliban.He was an arab merchant who helped USA and Taliban against USSR till 1979.After that Osama bin laden was close friend to Taliban and become enemy of USA as he was now acting independently.
When bin Laden was hiding out in Afghanistan, the Taliban helped keep him safe.
