Are we all fools to the olympics?

Bit of both really, but this event like many others gives pride and zest into the British people.

It's going to cost the government far more than it brings in - it's a sporting event, about celebrating sport and at the same time a massive PR opportunity to sell Britain to the world. And I'd rather pay to keep someone in a job designing and building the Olympic torch, rather than many of the other things our government wastes money on that don't do anything to encourage tourism or investment.

Yes it's a big prestigious event, but it is a financial rip-off from beginning to end. All you need do is look at the farce of ticket allocations. When has it ever been known to purchase anything in advance with no guarantee of getting what was purchased, if at all? The aftermath will be something to watch. So much finger pointing and denial.

No, not all of us. Some of us just see it as a big fat money pit that's going to make a loss.

Just like every other Olympics in the last thirty years. Every single one, run at a loss. LOCOG tells us all that these games won't; they're talking rubbish. The only possible variable is on how much of a loss it will actually make.

Then they're talking about security... putting SAM sites on rooftops. My, that's just comedy. How's that going to stop suicide bombers? But no matter, there's always a chance one of them will 'accidentally' target a helicopter with the PM on board....

Yes...

The Games are second to the REAL reason for the games, and it was to regenerate the east end of London, from a load of run down industrial buildings and massage parlours to a gleaming new area with housing and sport venues...

After the games they will become rundown and crime ridden.....

presumably a lot of it has been paid for already, it'd be daft to cancel it and not have foreigners coming here spending money etc. It increases Britain's prestige and makes people think we are world leaders, like they thought during the Blair years and Coil Britannia

Yes, you have a valid point. But in another way it can help strengthen alliance powers.

Stop being such a Scrooge.......this is like Christmas, Passover, and Ramadan.......all rolled into one.......lighten up.......it might be fun :) :) :)

Jm.b says it all and is 100% correct.

Nope. Only you.

what i mean is , it is a great event that it is coming to our country but is it just another way of our government to exploits its capitalism and make money off us, by hosting a great social event, then this time next year will we see the after effects and inflation once more? is this just another method to subsidise the government and are they deluding us? for instance, how much is this torch costing?
