The prisoners remaining at Guantanamo are the worst of the worst. These are the terrorists who would cheerfully slit the throats of little American kids---by the thousands. All the other wanna be terrorists have been released, a long time ago. These are the ones who would pose a mortal danger to our troops in Afghanistan, or the public, on our own soil.
They're terrorists or associated with terrorists as in financing them or harboring them. Here's an example: Khalid Sheik Mohammad the mastermind of the first WTC bombing and the one of the masterminds behind the tragic 9/11/01 attacks is in GITMO. He was Osama bin Laden's top people, he also kidnapped and murdered U.S. journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002; he BEHEADED Pearl via video, which is how he ended up in GITMO. He confessed to the murder. His nephew Ramzi Yousef bombed the WTC in 1993 by parking a truck bomb in the parking garage of WTC1 that blew up 6 floors, killed 10 people and injured 500. Yousef is also in GITMO.
These people are very dangerous, which is why they're under U.S. MILITARY watch out of the United States. They don't deserve protections under the U.S. Constitution, but they do have their own lawyers believe it or not. Radical Islamic Fundamentalist leaders are men, not usually women, very rarely women. They didn't care about the people they killed, why should they get rights? They don't deserve rights. Congress is not going to shut down GITMO either, because you don't want these kinds of people housed in the U.S prison system.
They haven't been charged with anything so no one knows exactly why they are being held. They were imprisoned for various reasons. Some were fingered for the rewards offered for terrorist sympathizers. Others, only on the word of fellow villagers (who often had ulterior motives), Some of them are probably actual terrorists or members of the Taliban/al Qaida. Since they are being held according military rules, they can be held until the cessation of engagement (until the "war" is over) which means forever, I guess.
You're not going to find any women in leadership positions in fundamentalist Muslim groups.
Guantanamo is where they put "suspected" terrorists, they haven't been charged or given due process, surely there are innocent people there who have been held for YEARS without a trial it is SO un-American it's a travesty and Obama should close it down asap.
Why do people get sent there? Is it only for men?
