Oh god no, that would destabilize the region even more. The Pakistani government is hanging on by a thread, they are very unstable, corrupt and under constant threat from the Haqqani network. What the US can do is just try to give support. If some extreme circumstances arise that we have cause to invade Pakistan then yes the US should attack, but in reality no. The Pakistani government is to some extent someone we could trust that can help the US on the war on terror and against the insurgents on the Afghan-Pakistan border. Pakistan is the main country to give supplies to US and Nato troops in Afghanistan and they are an important "ally" in the region. If the US does go to war, I think India will come on our side. They both hate each other because of a number of reasons, leading back into history. The Kashmir region, historical ties. India created nukes as a deterrent to Pakistan aggression. We attack targets in Pakistan frequently. Some the Pakistan govt knows ahead of time and some they do not. I think Pakistan has been pretty tolerant and cooperative in that aspect of our war against terror. It is a weird relationship the US has with them. I am fairly sure the attack on Bin Ladens compound was an attack they didn't know about, but how can they throw too big of a fit knowing they were harboring the worlds most wanted terrorist.

Pakistan is an official ally so we dont send in troops. Instead, we are killing people with drones with permission of their government. As Obama said in 2008, he would go anywhere to get terrorists. Unfortunately non-terrorists are being killed by remote controlled drones. And India is Pakistan's arch enemy so India would not help them.
