I would prefer if women were not locked away in jail and instead in the community but clearly a few female prisons need remain for the dangerous and violent female convicts. You can't murder someone and then be doing community service. But most women are lovely and some just need a bit of help. Many end up in jail doing things they wouldn't do if they weren't desperate or if she had the support of her family.
Answer. Yes, women should still be eligible for prison but only for serious or repeated crimes committed. It's clear they are more receptive to help than men are so it's not a waste of time trying to rehabilitate a female fraudster.
Let's look after our women as long as they want to be looked after. The ones who don't can do porridge like every other criminal
Prison doesn't work. For any gender. It's a complex topic, but any person involved within the justice system will all say the same thing.
The push for this isn't based on any kind of special dispensation for women - it's based on the cold hard fact that women re-offend less when given alternative sentences that aren't custodial. That's what we all want isn't it? For people not to re-offend? Plus the cost difference is colossal.
If a female commits a crime worthy of going to prison for, then that is what they should get. Why should only men be sent to prison? A man and a woman kill a person each in the same way, why should the female be let off the hook? She is a danger to society, and therefore belongs locked up in a prison cell for the rest of her days like any other murderer should.
If women want equal rights, they will get them. This is the 21st century, not the 18th
Probably yes. Most female prisoners and a sizeable proportion of the male ones too are in prison due to drug and or alcohol addiction, illiteracy and mental illness or some combination of these, which are the basis of the petty crimes they commit. Education, addiction therapy etc properly done with after care could virtually empty out our prisons in a decade
If they do the crime then they should get the same sentence a man would otherwise where is the equal society ?
If they ceased committing crimes they would stay out of prison. Surely that's the answer?
