Irish Americans are mostly just "plastic paddies" who have never even visited Ireland. They once had a pint of Guinness in "O'Reilly's pub" full of model leprechauns, and they act like they just kissed the blarney stone.
Biggest beef I have with IAs (well, apart from their disgusting support of the IRA in the past) is in their bars, they give their cocktail drinks sick names, like "Irish Car Bomb". That's hardly showing sensitivity to Irish political history, is it? It's a bit like opening an American bar in Dublin and then calling the cocktails things like "Twin Towers Collapse", "Lynching Blacks" and "Boston Legless".
There are some good IAs, but for the most part they should all (a) Visit Ireland - they might learn something! and (b) show some more respect for their self-declared homeland.
Until then, enjoy your plush leprechauns and drinking Guinness out of plastic cups.
A number of cities along the north eastern coast of the U.S. have an Irish heritage.
They are well represented on city councils, police and firemen, as well as socially.
St Patrick's day is celebrated all over the U.S. as on that day, most people claim to have Irish ancestry.
Of course it's big. Indeed St.Patrick's day is kind of unique. What other countries 'big day' is celebrated globally? NY, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston they all like to push the boat out. Is it multi culturalism? I kind of think it's just that deep down we all just love to party and no one likes to party more than the Irish.
:) With no great beef with anyone else everyone can join in.
Yes, because they have little history of their own.
is this multiculturalism, if not what is it
