I'm pretty sure if things collapse completely, it's gonna be on you right away, falling back on stockpiled foods, and materials could actually be more problems, than an advantage.
Start storing food in your cold storage or cellar and also save money in a safe case. You'll need a lot of things to save in case of a financial catastrophe and I bet you can't keep all the things with you. Check out the internet for the most important things that such a kit might have. My dad gets his emergency kits from http://www.emergencybugoutbags.net/ and they are really nice ones. I think you should also check this site.
.45, AR15, 30-06, and a 12ga with at least 500 rounds a piece. Canned food, water, clothing, sheet metal, gas, wood, matches, cotton (starting a fire) good huntin an pocket knife
You should be good to go
Contact the American Red Cross, by first locating your local chapter, by going to this website:
http://www.redcross.org/find-your-local-... and then going there and buying a "Survival kit".

I have 3 months of food in the cellar. Batteries, flashlights. Precious metals or jewelry. Paper money would be kindling. Oh, matches for starting fires. Stick matches dipped in wax are best. Strike anywhere would be good if you can find them. Blankets and warm clothing. Hats, gloves etc. Water purifying capsules. It would be nice to have 1000's of gallons of water but water purifying capsules would be easier to carry. Good hiking boots and backpack. Car will be good till tank runs dry. Scout out isolated areas in which to hold up. Learn how to build shelter. Those losers on Survivor always kill me, none of them have the slightest idea how to survive. And Byrr Gylls or whatever his name is stays at a motel at night. You will not have that option. There is a show called Doom Preppers, good to watch for ideas. Vegetable seeds in vacuum containers would be good too. Learn to eat bugs, I'm not kidding, one downed pilot years back only survived by eating bugs and larva till he was rescued. I myself am getting shot and die quickly. I'm not built to scuttle around surviving. I'm not inclined to linger.
ggo and stay in china if any one remains after disaster it will be in china
I was just thinking that if a catastrophe happened I would not be ready. Except in my car which I keep equipped with any possible thing in case of an emergency(everything from fix a flat to first aid and sleeping bag).
If a disaster were to happen, what should I have handy?
I recently bought a revolver also, started getting a little extra water here and there.
Say an economic collapse were to happen, what do I need? BTW, I live in a single story suburb in Tampa FL.
**There is really no good category to ask this question unfortunately.
