The police still haven't discovered his motive, yet. I don't think he ever cared about the people he killed. It was never about them. When he was living in San Diego with his family and friends he was an ordinary, reserved, very academically intelligent kid. He graduated from UC Riverside with honors in Neuroscience, one of the most difficult majors. When he moved to Colorado to pursue a Ph.D., he dropped out becuase of academic problems. He's obviously used to succeeding, being smart, and that's really all he had - his intelligence. When slowly and slowly he realized he was having trouble with academics, he became more discouraged and eventually dropped out. I think the reason is depression. He didn't feel smart any more. He was always obsessed with Batman, and I guess to feel smart again he had to form some brilliant evil scheme as if he were acting in a movie. He built booby traps in his apartment, died his hair red to resemble the evil Joker, and carefully planned out his scheme. So, you see, I don't think he ever really cared about the people. He convinced himself that he was just acting in a movie and planning out an evil genius scheme. No, a normal good person would not do what he did. And yes, he should face the consequences of his actions. But I think depression, academic pressure, frustration, and obsession drove him towards what he did.
Not ill,brilliant.A wimp struggling with stress,girl friend wouldn't give him any.So,he says i will show em.I can and will kill a lot of people and then beat the system.Remember,this animal was studying Neuroscience,he knows how to act.He will be able to handle any psychiatrist they put in front of him with the latest studies in this field.
Don't be fooled,he is acting,he is probably smarter than the lawer defending him,and it's all about beating the system.

Personally, I think he went crazy, and somehow his addled mind figured it was a good idea to arm himself to the teeth and go shoot up a movie theater full of people.

why would he kill people that didnt do ANYTHING to him? Yes i know he was very stupid to do that but he must have a really good reason to do what he did.. there are 12 people dead... 12 people that just wanted to see a movie... I honestly dont understand ... why would he plan to KILL innocent people ????
