The tories saw a chance to ramp up a bit of hatred towards a Union, they spectacularly mishandled the situation and have caused major problems with the petrol distribution system, now a woman has been badly burned, because she did not understand the dangers in handling petrol...it was probably a perfectly innocent reaction on her part to go to get a jug from the kitchen and to decant the petrol from the can Francis Maude recommended, to get her daughters car started.
You see, the problem is that now, we quite happily pull up to petrol pumps and self serve petrol into the car, without a thought as to the dangers, the pumps are pretty safe, but people become complacent about handling fuel, then this bloomin stupid situation occurs where the gov't. have created a totally unnecessary panic, causing petrol stations to run out and people to become stuck then silly accidents like this happen and a woman (probably not a stupid one!!) ends up badly burned, scarred for life.

I think that the response from Frances Maude et al was pretty stupid too, but it was the woman's choice to decant a volatile, flammable liquid near her cooker.
The government can be haeld to account for a lot of things, but they shouldn't really be blamed for Darwin Award-level stupidity.
