Why Thatcher destroyed democracy in this country?

Can you remind me when our democratic right to vote was taken away............I could have sworn I was still able to vote!

The gates at the end of Downing Street were put there because of the threat of terrorist attack from the Irish freedom fighters in 1920, they have been updated and improved over the years as the threat of terrorist attacks increased. If Blair was to re-open the government to "democracy" why did he not have the gates taken down when the terrorist threat they were built for diminished after the Good Friday agreement?

The unions destroyed industry and almost destroyed the country during the 1970s. The unions largely funded by the Soviet government managed to create a period of time so dark for the average Briton that they would rather forget it. Three day weeks, power on three hours off three hours, such crippling strikes that people had to deliver their own casualties to hospital (ambulance drivers strikes) only to have to cross picket lines of nurses on strike to reach the doctors, rubbish piling up in the streets uncollected, the army called in to act as firemen as the fire service was on strike, schools shut for weeks on end due to teacher strikes: and all of this under the Premierships of Messrs Callaghan and Wilson in those dark days. What Thatcher did was remove the criminal and negligent powers of the Soviet backed unions so that industry could move with the times and at least try and return to a semblance of competitive standing. Sadly for the motor industry and the ship building industry she was too little too late.

you have not the slightest clue what democracy is. Democracy isn't about walking up to the door of number 10 - democracy is about free elections.

Margaret Thatcher made no changes to democracy - we voted her in three times and would have voted her in a fourth if her own party wets who wanted a return to big government hadn't knifed her out. Those who voted for Major would have voted for Thatcher.

Possibly your getting confused about Wolfgang Walter, the pensioner who called out "Rubbish" at the party conference and was evicted for his pains - but that was Labour remember - the wonderful Tony Blair who really did stitch up democracy.

We the people elected her government three times. Was this not democracy in action? The unions destroyed themselves because of their idiotic power crazed leaders.

You are either thick or a pathetic liar. She has not destroyed union power and if she was so unpopular why the election victories ? The gates ? see elsewhere and come to think of it when was the last time unions actually spent any time worrying about their members ? Why no big demonstrations against cheap foreign labour stealing all our jobs ?

Even now she's dead, some people just can't let go.

I do wish I could retain bitterness and pent up anger for so long. Must do wonders for ones health!

she was so unpopular that is why the british public voted her back into office twice more........

the gates at the end of downing street are there because she was so unpopular, and anyone could walk into a Conference but now there is a ring of steel around them

this is not foreign terrorists, but because her own people hated her.

Sh has destroyed unions power to fight for the workers and indeed they have gone further than that and now claim a ballot has not been conducted correctly.
