The War of 1812 was between the United States and the British Empire (Which would become Canada in 1867). It was over territory and trading rights (Americans wanted to trade with the french, Too bad!)
Canada Won by the way. That's why we're a separate country now and not a northern state.
The war was fought in three principal theatres. First, at sea and along the Atlantic Coast of the U.S. Secondly, both land and naval battles were fought on the American-Canadian frontier, along the Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence River region. Thirdly, the American South and Gulf Coast also saw major land battles.
On U.S. land , on the east coast, the British burnt down the white house.
