Not even Japan has been that badly affected by the radiation released by the nuclear plants.
We're surrounded by radiation every day. The sun is radioactive. The ground is radioactive. Bananas are radioactive (really, they are!) And we're radioactive (mainly because we need the potassium contained inside the bananas.)
If you consider the amount of radiation you get by consuming 1 banana, the x-rays you get at the dentist's office are equivalent to eating about 50 bananas. Meanwhile the average amount of radiation that an average person on Earth receives every day is equivalent to about 100 bananas.
The amount of radiation in the water that will reach the west coast of the US? Not even 1 banana.
Yes, that's still one a banana more than what we have today, but nothing to be worried about.
Meanwhile, "elevated chances of developing cancer" don't start until you eat 1 million bananas. All at once. Radiation sickness doesn't start until you've eaten over 4 million bananas. Again, eaten all at once.
If you managed to swallow 4 BILLION bananas all at once, then you would have consumed enough radiation to kill you. Of course, if you swallowed 4 billion bananas, I think radiation would be the least of your worries :-)
We have had radiation on the west coast of the US for more than two years, but two new reports have been released in the past week that show that the near future could be disastrous. What you are referring to is the release of data that shows that contaminated ocean water will reach the US west coast by early 2014, with radiation levels peaking in 2016. The other is far worse, with new equipment used by the TEPCO ( Tokyo Electric Power Company) that shows drastic under reporting of radiation levels around the Fukushima plant. According to an NBC report in the past day, levels of 1800 millisieverts per hour have been found. That level would cause death in four hours.

Sorry to disappoint you but radiation hit California over 3 years ago. So, just don't eat any California Oranges, or anything else California has to offer. Why do you think they are legalizing Pot in California, Colorado, and other states close to the Pacific shore line.
if you go back to 1952 there was the first nuke plant meltdown in sheffield england , then three mile island , chernobyl , fukishima leaks 400 tons of radioactive groundwater into the pacific PER DAY ! , that nuke dump in the urals that went critical back in the early 90s . the thresher and scorpion nuke sub disasters . russia routinely dumps old sub cores in the arctic ocean every fuel rod ever used at a nuke power plant in america is still on site with a shallow pool of water to protect us . america did about 125 ABOVE ground nuke bomb tests , russia did a similar number . add in a few each from england , france , china , pakistan , india , israel , and south africa . the world is awash in radiation . we are doomed .
That's crazy. The radiation already hit and went away. Just like with Chernobyl. As long as you aren't going to move into the nuclear plant at Fukushima, you have nothing to worry about.

I keep reading that the radiation from Fukushima is going to hit the USA in 2014, and that the media is lying to us and that the radiation will cause an extinction event. And everyone is saying that a mass extinction event is inevitable.
I am scared, I am only 13 and I don't want to die. I need facts about this now.
