Military expansion in the region. Israel wants regional hegemony and Gaza is very important for that purpose. Egyptians smuggle weapons into Gaza and many Muslim nations occasionally break the embargo placed on the city. Israel also control the territorial waters surrounding the city so this gives them the capability to strike terrorist supporting networks further north in the Levant.
A number of Syrian generals have been assassinated by Israel this way as have a number of high profile enemy's. It is a way of disposing of external threats. By claiming ownership of the City of Gaza it incites the Arab street and allows Israel to push the buttons of the Muslim world. Ever heard of a term the Soviet used "When I want the West to scream, I squeeze on Berlin". This is what Israel does with regards Gaza.
It is a disgusting way of doing business and no way how politics should work. Gaza is relatively a minor player but getting the various capitals to come together is a challenge that requires skilled diplomats and a willingness to make peace. Something that is lacking in a region full of violence.
Ownership.
it doesn't , Israel kept Gaza for security purposes and retreated from it more than 5 years ago.
Its history
Israel captured it in the war
ohhh
I've researched the palestine angle to a limited extent, can someone give me a breakdown on why Israel believes it is entitled to the ownership of the Gaza strip?
I'm pretty new to this conflict and want to form a fairly objective opinion.
