The word Tragedy sums it up.
It's another occasion when the unfairness of the world is presented to us as a cold, hard fact.
It's not simply Have nots trying to start a new life in the land of the Haves (or those they perceive as having more/better), it's a cruel reminder that life is fragile.
It's a condemnation of the way the rich countries of the world build a wall and pull up the drawbridge to avoid having to share their wealth with the rest of humanity. If people are so desperate to share in our prosperity that they will risk their lives in the process, there's something dreadfully wrong with our society. I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers from people who think we should machine-gun their boats and keep them all out.
I don't,because it makes no difference to my life.
