Now, having met and made friends with a young Brasilian minister and family (through this Yahoo forum), I've learned a lot, and am actually planning a trip there.
As far as protests, there will always be financial issues/problems with governments priorities as opposed to the needy and poverty stricken.
Brazil is broke. So, who isn't these days? The trouble is, Brazil wants to spend money even faster than the U.S. The PEOPLE of Brazil, who have to PAY all those bills, are simply furious. I think the PEOPLE of Brazil have a much firmer grasp of national economics---than the greatest financial wizards in the United States.
