How did the 1987 Hurricane affect you?

It did not affect me I slept through the whole thing although I got a couple of small scratches on my car from debris flying down the street

I remember waking in the night and it actually felt warm, I could hear a sound like crockery smashing outside, when I peered out at dawn I saw that it was my roof tiles I'd heard smashing on our concrete drive, luckily I had parked my car in the road instead of in the drive so it escaped being damaged, there were bins rolling down the street and 6 ft fence panels were cartwheeling across peoples gardens, I drove carefully over to my Mother's just in time to see her greenhouse move several feet down the garden, it remained upright and undamaged, the whole thing was pretty scary and we had the Tv on all morning as news of more damage was coming in all the time.

I ended up having to walk into work (about 4 miles) because the roads were blocked and the District line out of operation.

Technically it was not a hurricane as such

Walking my neighbours boys home from school, the wind picked up the youngest & dumped him in the middle of the road!

Only thanks to super aware car drivers that it didn't end in tears.

Never been so frightened.

Glad to get home & shut the door.

Next morning most gardens were in chaos, fence panels & uprooted trees.

Well apparently, much like yesterday's storm only worse, it didn't really affect us much up north- perhaps some strong wind, that's about it. From what I vaguely recall being told, anyway- being two I was too young to remember the event.

i was working on a loft conversion at the time and the whole dormer blew off and landed in the allotments , someone got a free shed

It didn't bother me, because I live

in Cheshire. But I read all about it

in the news...and the newscaster

telling a woman not to panic because

it won't happen.....

i went to a job interview in Kent a few days later and travel was disrupted.

I slept through it, but it made my journey into work the next day interesting!

I went to school and nothing to report - nothing blew away/over or off

With a possible big storm hitting the UK soon.Thought it would be a good time to look back to those golden 80's days and dig up some memories. As for me I had been out drinking the night it all kicked off and woke in the morning with my mum telling me my Dad's shed had blown away and there was no electricity.I went up the local shops to get some batteries for our radio but the shop was shut. There was a bloke parked outside the shop with his daughter in the back and he let me sit in his car until the shop opened. Not that exciting I'm affraid but maybe you guys have a better story to tell.

the next morning i was working in the BA Glasgow shuttle lounge in terminal one at heathrow. my shift started at 06.00am i was still there 40 hours later. it was bedlam.

My voice broke!
