POLL: Are you in favour of commercial whaling?

South Korea “accidentally” catches 2350 whales in 2012

The South Koreans “bycatch whaling” which is basically claiming to have caught whales by accident. That is when a South Korean catch in their nets a whale by accident, that whale is his to sell because it was an accident. In 2012 the South Koreans had 2,350 such accidents, meaning 2,350 dead whales. Also meaning 2,350 whales removed from the oceans.

Thus if less than 300 whales taken by the Japanese contribute to killing the oceans then 2,350 whales removed from the oceans must have killed the oceans.

The cowards of Sea Shepherd are bullies who go after a passive people, the Japanese mariners, while avoiding those who are responsible for the removal of 2,350 whales, the South Koreans. Sea Shepherd knows if they attempt to interfere with the South Koreans the response would not be passive.

Okay I'm in favor of commercial whaling as much as commercial massacring of moo-moos.

The Japanese claim its for research which is odd given that they only target one species the Minke and then claim to remove a small part of the animal (not even the size of a small fist ) which begs the question what are they researching .

Norway are open and honest they target a particular whale for food and have done for many years the Japanese have used bribery in the way of donations etc to keep Norway on side at the whaling commission why can they not just be honest and now they are targetting animals in the southern ocean which is an Australian sanctuary .

I really don't see the problem with it, as long as that species of whale are not endangered. I hate with a passion the people that consider it 'murder' and then happily eat steak the next day.

If highly hypocritical people like that were to just kill themselves, Japan wouldn't have to catch whales under the guise of research and would do it openly.

As long as it's done sustainably I don't see a problem with it. But at the moment given that whales have been nearly hunted to extinction there's no real way to do it sustainably. The exception being is when a whale beaches itself then it shouldn't go to waste.

In theory NO . The Japanese eat whale , so I suppose they would not want to stop . but we don't , as far as I know here in the west UK . During WW2 people consumed Whale and other things which we don't eat now ??? .

No I am vehemently against whale hunting.

1, the whale population has never recovered from international hunting of the 19th century.

2, tonnes of whale meat sits in cold storage in Japan as it fails to pass toxicity tests.

Why continue hunting?

It makes no sense.

I think some whale populations have recovered, so I'd allow a bit of it, yes.

But definitely not any endangered species.

NO.Like all the world they must learn new ways of eating.Or whatever purpose you would do this for.We need to find why they beach themselves rather than hunt them to extinction.

No, from the USA

The Japanese are fond of driving any species to extinction, yet claim it is for research but eat the animals they kill. Tuna will be the animal the Japs decimate.

How can you ever condone a slow painful death for any creature. If you made an animal suffer like that on land in this country you would get prosecuted.

Are you in favour of commercial whaling? I am conducting a survey to see how people's views differ from the UK to Japan. Shown here: http://polls.dailynews.yahoo.co.jp/other/120/result 90% of Japanese people asked are in favour of whaling and I need to see how this differs from people's views in the UK.

NO. Not in the way such as Japan does it.

-No. It no longer serves any Constructive purpose. :(

Aha. No, I'm not.

No, I am not.
