Should I care about the earthquake in Chile?

It will effect you, albeit indirectly. Whom does Chile owe money too, what will happen to the economy of credit and debt on which every country runs when another country defaults?

Two people may have died, but the damage to their economic info structure might have been worse hit.

Getting credit will be harder, things will go up in price etc.

That aside, why should you care about the suffering of others? you don't have a choice unless you have psychological problems, is that what you are saying? you are a sociopath?

You should always be concerned when there is a disaster somewhere in the world. You may one day be the person affected - would you not want someone to care? Now - how you respond is an individual choice. This earthquake was one on the highest ranking. One this size happens somewhere in the world only once per year (on average).

I liken this to climate change in some way. Look at all the weather changes these past few years. Every type of disaster known has had more and more events - there are more to come. You talk about the 'ring of fire' being an exception. There is really no place on this earth that does not have a normal disaster event in its past. Just because someone lives there does not mean that they should expect it. This did not happen just because it was on April Fool's Day. Luckily it did not cause a major loss of life.

We should expect more (and stronger) hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes in the future.

See if anyone cares about you when you're out with your "Will Work For Food" sign.

Anything that kills massive amounts of people at one time is worth caring about. There will be many people making modest to large donations to the Red Cross.

The medical profession worldwide will care, and will fly medical aid to Chile if asked by the UN or the Chilean government.

I won't bother to ask where your alleged heart is. Apparently, you don't have one.

EDIT: Einstein, one is too many.

You should be concerned, but not in the way that you are suggesting. Globally, there has been a huge increase in strong earthquakes all over. This means that something is happening to the crust of the planet. Be prepared for a series of quakes of an unbelievable magnitude in the near future. Geologists are guessing in the area of the Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean islands.

You're right! We shouldn't care about much of anything unless it affects directly. I feel the same way about my neighbors. Who cares what happens to them as long as it doesn't affect me. After all. I am an island unto myself aren't I?

Is the sarcasm sinking in yet?

Yes you should care it's not like the earthquake was fooling people like "April fools I just killed 5 people" it's a serious crisis. It's coming out way.

Talking about the one that happened on today, April Fools Day 2014.

I mean, I bet you more people died in every other country than Chile (such as the USA). Why do they matter?

People who live on the ring of fire should expect these kind of things to happen.

Meanwhile I'll be playing "Ring of Fire" by Krewella ;)
