OMG now HMV is to call in the Administrators?

So the end of high street shopping is closer than ever.

Internet shopping is fine but i would rather see and feel the product before i buy it.

The collapse of the High St was always predictably on the cards when retailers got greedy importing crap from China bought for pennies and sold for pounds, putting the very people they relied on, their customers on the unemployment figures, as jobs were exported. It was a time bomb, everyone knew it would happen but the Banks and Government were cashing in de-luxe so sod the consequences.

Greedy landlords, crippling rates, high taxation, greedy unscrupulous Banks, extortionate credit card interest rates and the Golden Goose is well and truly cooked!

British consumers devoured massively overpriced Chinese products effectively buying their own unemployment , closing of UK industry and export of their own jobs.

Most people like to see & feel the product before they buy it, which is why most people go to a high street shop to get the information they need, then when they've decided they buy the product online.

I don't think there is a solution for this particular problem, unless the high street shops can charge people to view the products, then deduct that charge if the customer buys from the shop there & then.

At 68 I probably am not so much of a computer person as many members. I dont mind paying a little more to look at goods before I buy,and know there is someone local to go to if something goes wrong, much as I have noticed the asker also likes.

Its a great shame about HMV,of course.

Many HMV shops are very busy. It has been a very poorly managed business and high rents charged in shopping malls have not helped. I am sure something new will emerge out of the ashes

I think there is still a place for highstreet retail but the market will definitely be drastically smaller. Places like electrical shops should be fine, but places like HMV that deal in media and entertainment simply can't compete, most people are happy with the quality and prices of e-retailers. It's a struggle for convenience and price and the internet simply does that better.

I don't think it's the death knell for highstreet retail but they will certainly need to react to stay competitive.

Forecast mentioned last week in reply to another question.

I agree but high rents don't help

I thought it died years ago with all this techno at our finger tips..good riddance to over priced shyte

I've not bought anything there for many many years.
