We no longer use A.D. That is a religious term and science and governments are removing all religious terms of any kind.
B.C. is now B.C.E.

the preferred terms are now C.E. and B.C.E. for Common era, and Before common era. This removes the religious connotations of A.D. or B.C. There are a lot of good reasons to do this. For one, Jesus was not born in 1 a.d., so the dating is off anyways. Second, the adoption of this particular calculator took hundreds of years to become accepted around the world. it started out around 500C.E. and was used to bring uniformity to dating events in Europe. When the age of exploration left Europe colonizing, exploring, or conquering other parts of the world, the calendar was imposed on other parts of the world.
It should also be noted that while many countries use this calendar dating for convienance, many nations and cultures maintain their own calendar systems.
I still use BC (before Christ) and AD (Anno-Domini--In the year of the Lord) so yes for all normal people we are in AD.
"BCE" means "before the common era" and to the liberal purists takes the place of BC. I really am not sure what they come up with to replace AD ?
If we went from B.C. to A.D., what happened to year zero? That transition didn't happen overnight.
