The article says credit card use, and thats the Daily Mail so it must be right, true?

They can't be "responsible" OAPs then, can they?

Lol I'm just amazed at this, like Erskine I was brought up to live within my means, waste not want not etc etc, very little gets wasted in this household and if we can't afford it we don't just buy it on the never never we either go without it or save up for it!

Again Erskine has hit the nail on the head, many were dazzled by the ever rising house prices, but you would only be better off if you downsized anyway, the price of a house simply buys....another house but many have borrowed against that perceived asset, we haven't we regard ourselves as asset rich, cash poor although we have savings which are never touched, we simply pretend they don't exist because they are a safety cushion, anything we want has to be saved for separately and rainy day money is just kept by!

Hi there

I really don't understand this. We are of the generation who were raised with rationing ruling most of our lives. Credit was a dirty word with hire purchase only just acceptable.

Mortgages should be paid off and we really do know how to cook cheap and nutritious food.

My own thoughts are that people became dazzled by the rising value of their homes forgetting that it is not real money unless you are buying or selling your property.

All very sad.

Best wishes.
