Most scientific articles published during the 80s about possible the effects of a global thermonuclear war pretty much concluded with the human race dying out entirely within just a few years.
Survivors might have small stocks of supplies but eventually they're going to run out and they aren't going to be able to find more.
Being far from the major cities won't help either because pretty much the whole land is going to be covered by fallout, which includes the lakes, rivers, streams, and eventually wells and the whole water table. The soil would become radioactive making it difficult if not impossible to grow crops.
Many scientists predicted that the explosions would create clouds of debris that would be thrown so high into our atmosphere it would take years for it to all fall back to earth. We've seen this with large volcanic eruptions. The resulting debris in the upper atmosphere actually blocks some of the sunlight and had a measurable effect on crop productivity. Now imagine a much thicker layer and one that might last years. Even if you could find some unpolluted land and water, you probably wouldn't be able to grow enough food to sustain yourself let alone a group.
Some of the more dire predictions had most plant life dying off due to the severely reduced levels of sunlight, which would set off a catastrophic chain of mass extinctions that ends with the extinction of man.
Something like the massive Vaults from Fallout were actually proposed during the 50s - which is where the Fallout games get their quirky deadpan sense of humor. This was also when education films instructed children to "duck and cover" in the event of a nuclear attack, and they participated in nuclear air raids by huddling under their desks. I guess they wanted the children to feel that they could do SOMETHING but it was laughable to suggest you could survive a nuclear blast by hiding under your desk or in a shallow ditch.
I guess it all depends on the magnitude of the exchange. If all countries that could expended their entire nuclear arsenals I'm betting the nuclear winter would outlast even the most die hard survivalist. If it were limited to major population centers, most of the infrastructure would be gone, and the lack of food distribution would cause massive death in these areas for those who couldn't or wouldn't leave. Technology would survive, and survivors would group together as always happens. Of course the down side is that most government leaders in the world would probably survive. Ironic since they would have been responsible for the armageddon.
Read, 'God Stopping A Nuclear War' , it's only 2.99 anyway. It really goes into your question. Just past the first chapter which explains what a soul is, and what happens after we die. This is little long, but it is worth reading. You'll be mad with yourself if you find out later you bypassed this information the first time you came across it. LOL. You'll kick yourself in the *** if possible.
People would break into racial groups after a nuclear war, and go backwards.
PC correctness would be dead with the first nuclear blast reducing an American city to rubble. Who would trust the judgement of the government anymore? The military would take over, and if too many cities were reduced to rubble, they'll shoot the remaining unnecessary political leaders.
The interesting thing about this book is the new definition of God the author gives, explaining what he is. I bet you think that can't be done, he did it. And wait till you read what and who Satan is, big shock. No demon with a stupid pitchfork.
Once you learn what God is, why he went into hiding, makes sense. Once you understand what Satan is, all racism, people like Hitler will make complete sense to you. Even what the third anti-Christ will want from the world, and why he really stands a chance of winning, will make sense to you.
Then he uses the ideas to understand why Muslims have problems fitting into Europe. Why many Jews and Muslims are more mentally rigid than Europeans in general, more verbal, but less mechanical. Less artistic, notice how Muslims don't get into painting and are not good with tools. All this is just a little part of the bigger picture of who and what Satan really are.
Then he explains how Satan's kingdom is divided against itself, using science, it is great. Your mind and soul are divided between both of their kingdoms within you, but how takes time to explain. This is why people have always been their battleground.
You actually feel sorry for God, he has a tough fight. Insecure if we would be loyal to him if we knew the whole truth. Many people might easily go to Satan's side. You have to understand what they are before you really can understand why even some good people might side with Satan.
Satan is pushing for the nuclear war unless certain populations don't bleed to death certain nations. He wants America, Canada, Europe, and most of Asia under his control, feeling his mind is more naturally expressed in them populations.
Once you understand what Satan is, you'll understand why a failed artist, Hitler, went after the Jews. Why Satan encourages crime among blacks, but wants them gone in the long run. And why he wants to grip China in the future.
If Satan can't get most of his way, he wants Israel destroyed with most surrounding nations, and India and Pakistan destroyed together. Why? You have to know what he is, read the book.
A nuclear war will give him that.
Think of this. How long have modern homo sapiens being around? 50 thousands years at least.
So, from the caves to the internet took about 10 thousand years with our modern brains.
So, what were our ancestors doing the first 40 thousand years if their natural intelligence is equal to ours today?
Did we have our first nuclear all out war before?
Did you know they found a frozen mammoth elephant in ice with a lead pellet inside its flesh.
How did they explain it? They couldn't, so they stopped trying.

Another secret. A book like this was predicted in the Bible, a small book that would explain God and everything about him just before a major war. It is supposed to be sent by God to an angel to a person.

Hello All,
For exploratory purposes only, let's assume the United States gets involved into a Nuclear Conflict. The conflict escalates to the point of actual Nuclear Warheads being shot and discharged. Now in this post-detonation environment, society as we all know it crumbles. No electricity, fuel or means to mass produce power conventionally. My question is; What will happen to people during that transition from "Happy Days" society to "Society Crumbling?" What will happen to the everyday person? Will people become savages? Do the people have capacity to rebuild the society?
