Do you feel safe in your community?

Are there any situations that you would avoid because you are wary or afraid? Whst are they?

Absolutely

I live in a city about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh, Pa.

My actual neighborhood is very quiet and lovely to look at. In case anyone is wondering? I am not anywhere close to being well off. I rent this little house, and I love it here.

Perhaps it is safer in my city because we have a local police station, a city police station and a state police station that are located right here. We also have a hospital within easy reach for any emergency.

However, even with all that? There are certain areas that I would not want to be walking in late at night. We have quite a number of bars, and when they close up? It can be pandemonium for a while. We also have drug abusers and drug dealers. They seem to all come out late at night and their behavior is downright bizarre and more than a little bit scary.

Further Note - A close relative of mine lived for a year in New Zealand. She really loved it there and misses it. Then she made a trip to London at the invitation of a friend. London scared the dickens out of her.

This person has been all over New York, but she claims that London is a lot more dangerous. From her description of it? It must be enormous. I've always thought that the larger a place gets? The more difficult it is to keep it safe. Whether it's schools or cities? Smaller seems to be better.

Yes, I feel safe. I wouldn't walk around in the bad parts of town between midnight and sun up but I've never needed to or wanted to. Now that I think about it, I wouldn't walk around in my own neighborhood at any time of the night - no one walks after dark here - because we have bears and the occasional mountain lion. The bears are only Black Bears but they look twice as big when you're looking at them without a window and a wall of the house between you and them. I'm thinking my own neighborhood is, in many respects, less safe than the bad parts of town:-) Safety isn't absolute. No matter where you live you have to learn the "rules" about what's safe to do and what's not safe to do. Humans have always lived this way.

Up to a point, put it this way I know where the dodgy areas are so avoid them. I would not walk in a subway for instance day or night. I did once feel a bit trashed at Kennington tube station one night but once a few more people came down onto the platform i went and stood next to them until the train came in.

Living in a small town in the Midwest in the US I feel completely safe. The last killing we had here was seventeen years ago and that was more of a suicide than anything else. The guy, who had his wife leave him, kept asking the cops to shoot him but they wouldn't and so he pointed his unloaded rifle at them. There has never been a reported mugging here. Now and again someone will steal something out of your garage if you don't lock it but they usually get caught pretty quick and ninety percent of the time you get it back. You can walk down the street at two in the morning and not worry about it.

Of course not. I live in America. This is the most dangerous nation on earth in which to live. I am old, now. But, I have watched the violence become more frequent---and more severe---with each passing year.

Yes, I feel very safe in my house in our gated community in a respectable area in Lincolnshire,England

Yes, but there again I dont live in Hackney or Bradford.

No. They(my neighbors) have shot the police here. They (the police) don't come around anymore, especially after 10pm or so.
