Do construction workers still drink beer all day?

The alcoholic ones do. This could be any profession. Lawyers, doctors and even pilots have been caught drinking on the job.

There are always going to be bad apples in any group.

However, for the most part, construction workers take their job seriously. Drinking on the job would lead to sloppy work and more importantly, a dangerous work environment. Their job is already dangerous enough, handling power tools, heavy machinery, and walking around high off the ground.

As has been said, there are some bad apples, but I take a great deal of comfort in the fact that 99% of the guys and gals I work with do not drink on the job and many companies are drug-free workplaces

Most of us are family people who are working hard to provide for our families. Drinking and drugs, especially on the job, will not accomplish that goal.

My brother son and a couple of people I know work on construction sites

not one of them would risk their driving license as it would mean they would be out of work , most wont even drink late at night in case it shows up on a breath test in the morning

your own mentality leaves a lot to be desired

The local talk radio station is talking about a fireman who blew the whistle about his colleges who guzzle beer while on the job - this is what made me think of this.

Now, while I was working my way through college in the 1980s I worked summers for a contractor who was building a huge tract of condos and apartments. I was on the crew which cleaned up between phases of construction. A lot of the debris we cleaned up was beer cans - a LOT of it. The carpenters, sheet rockers, roofers etc, seemed to live on Bud tall boys and Marlboro reds. I couldn't understand it. I couldn't work and exhausting job like that and drink an alcoholic beverage all day but I guess these guys were not only used to doing it but it was also more or less expected - fitting into the testosterone infused, macho mentality of the construction.

This was more than 30 years ago and it has been a long time since I have worked on any kind of construction site. Still some things never change. I see work gangs at the convenience stores in the morning buying coffee and Marlboro reds, that hasn't changed and the guys look pretty much the same, just with newer pickup trucks. Are they still chugging beer all day long or has that been done away with by the evolution of substance abuse mentality of the 21st century?
