People underestimate the human capacity for ingenuity and misunderstand what complicity in a conspiracy actually requires. The common argument you hear is that the complexity of coordinating a large conspiracy is a barrier to its credibility.

I am always astonished at how people can believe a serious, large scale atrocity can be too “complicated” for sophisticated, unhindered, unsuspected, unmonitored, unrestricted first world hidden elements to have been involved in a conspiracy to bring about but yet sufficiently uncomplicated for unaided, restricted, suspected, monitored, underground, third world extremists to conceive and execute it.

Consider this.

All one has to do to be complicit in a conspiracy to bring about an atrocity is to establish an anti-extremist website and link it to law enforcement agencies sites. Then one can conduct "legitimate research" by trawling extremist sites looking for information that one feeds to the authorities in regular reports, without attracting criticism or accusations of being an extremist.

The next stage would be register separately with extremist websites in order to conduct research and interact on extremist forums with angry extremists, insinuate them into one's confidence and initiate debates and discussions and propose ideas and methods about the best means of venting the anger exhibited on the site – an agent provocateur.

Very few stereotypical extremists have unfettered access to dangerous materials, chemicals, explosives, sophisticated equipment, access to aircraft, etc., particularly in this era of heightened vigilance. It is easy to see how the help, advice, guidance and facilitation of online "advisors", able to move freely and unsuspected in the real world, could be essential to the planning and execution of extremist activities.

When naive extremists take the bait and hatch a plan, based on the encouragement and suggestions of such agents provocateurs, then those hidden hands have contributed to any atrocity that occurs.

Some believe that there are many such self-appointed "researchers" and many of them could easily cooperate with one another in concerted efforts to induce gullible, hot-headed, naive extremists into acting out atrocities, who then stand back hypocritically afterwards and point all the blame in the direction of the extremists.

There are those who believe that the majority of "foiled" extremist plots consist of such "engineered" circumstances in which agents provocateurs help in the conception, design and the planning, reveal the plot to the authorities at the last minute and then feed the story to the media afterwards, in exchange for payment, as "terrorism expert" pundits and commentators.

For such a contrived atrocity to succeed, all it requires is for the preparation and build up to happen over a sufficiently long time fall all the pieces to fall into place and the last minute warning about the plot to be withheld until it is too late.

There are those who believe that the World Trade entre atrocity was one such plot contrived by agent provocateurs and implemented by biddable patsies.

Conspiracy theorists reject reality and try to substitute their own.

Conspiracy theories about 9/11 all rely on bad science, or intricate organizations that would be so huge, it should be impossible for them to remain completely hidden, meaning no leaked documents, no members having a change of conscience or publishing memoirs or going to a news outlet to give 'the interview of the century'.

There's an old pirate saying that goes "three men may keep a secret...if two of them are dead."

The more people you involve with holding some sort of secret, the more likely it's going to leak. It's just human nature.

So if 9/11 was a US conspiracy, how come there's been conclusive evidence more than a decade later? If you look at the conspiracy theorists' "evidence" it's still nothing but fuzzy screenshots, bad speculation, and quotes from "scientists" whose grasp of their supposed subject would make Akin look like an expert.

Very nice, first original thinking I have seen on this subject in a long time. I think I am in the same camp as you not sure what to make of this incident, the conspiracy people have some compelling arguments but a conspiracy seems beyond credulity.

edit:bbtalk I am not disrespecting the victims of this horrendous crime. I do however believe those same victims would want the truth to be known and that is precisely why there is a continuing discourse.

oh, and how did the 19 hijackers steal the gold and diamond in the vaults under the twin towers?

and why did the "plane" not decelerate when it hit the building? and why was not deflected by even a single degree? and how did the nose cone manage to go straight through the building? and how did the fragile wing tip manage to cut through steal beams? and why did the military radar show that there was nothing there? and why did flight transcripts reveal that the planes were hijacked and flown north over the Canadian border? why did the flight transcripts show that the planes were STILL in the air AFTER they were supposed to have crashed? and why have so many 9/11 witnesses managed to die while trying to park the car?

The more people hear lies spread, the more they believe them. I'm not letting muslim extremists off the hook for something they did. I'm going to start ignoring these insulting questions. This is an insult to the 3000 innocent people who lost their lives on 9/11, all their family members, and our country.We have more immigrants to the U.S. than all other countries combined. Keep this in mind. Many immigrate to the U.S. then freely bash our country in any way they can. ''This'' is where the lies were started from, and now they have some others who've always lived here, who believe this nonsense.
