Yes it is true see links below.

Several versions of the same story.

The last link is pictures of the find.

It will be nice for them to come home after being forgotten & overlooked for 60 + years.

Yes this story was reported on the BBC, just after the recent democratic elections held in that country. Spitfires are a national treasure, they represent the sight and sound of freedom to us. so these machines buried during the second world war are to be returned to the RAF for evaluation.

edit: don't talk rot about something you obviously don't know anything about, this deal is being done at government, diplomatic level pursuant to the fact they are still British mod property, otherwise the Burmese would just flog them, i don't doubt the mod wont pass a number of machines on, but only to reputable concerns, yes their evaluation will be undertaken by the RAF as having the responsibility to maintain the battle of Britain squadron, they are ably equipped to do so..

THAT is brilliant! Now perhaps someone could find the crates of Lancaster bombers that are buried somewhere in the Midlands. They were buried in case of invasion.

To see and hear that magnificent plane flying is something else and as there is I believe only one left that is airworthy, to see others flying would be great for the remaining Bomber Boys beore it is too late.

*They were found by aircraft hunters actually

''David Cundall, 62, spent 15 years doggedly searching for the planes, an exercise that involved 12 trips to Burma and cost him more than £130,000''.

The RAF have better things to do with their time LOL not exactly mint after 70 years buried 50ft down!

But this is trult splendid.Thank you for telling me about them.

Hi I recently heard a story that a farmer found 20 Spitfires still crated in an old airbase in Burma .The Spits were to be returned to the UK, assembled and tested for air worthiness.Does anyone know if this is true and if it is are there any sites on the web that I can get further details from ,as in where they are located ,who is rebuilding them and when they are likely to take to the air .

Thanks in advance for any info
