we (the Regiment) did 3
'tours' of Ireland & we were
cajoled, spat on & denigrated
by every single God loving one
of the people (Prod or Fene).
We were young & dumb, but
were soon 'wise' to 'our war' which
was : us or them ! no questions !.
I am very sad (to this day) for the
hurt & anguish we the (British Army)
imposed upon the Micks, but life is
life !!.
Today it's Muslim Paedophiles tomorrow,
maybe the illegal smokers (string 'em up ?).
First off, the Ireland Britain thing was not religious.
Ireland was being occupied by the English who wanted to remain part of the UK and were called Unionists and/or loyalists. Unionists were loyal to the crown/Queen who is also head of the Church of England/protestant faith.
The native Irish were not loyal to the Queen of Englands specific brand of Christianity and wanted to re-unify Ireland and separate it from England and were generally Catholics, they were called Nationalists.
There were many important people on either side who did not fit the stereotypes.
More to they point whenever the Irish immigrated the word used to describe what they were doing was was integrating, meaning they would adopt the English rule of law and nationality as their own helping break preconceptions on both sides and contributing to peace.
Whenever Muslims started immigrating the word used now is MULTICULTURALISM, which is the opposite of integration. They form parallel societies within Britain and demand a separate rule of law which shuts down dialogue and makes things worse, it is happening in every country they go to in Europe.
The Golden Dawn, The EDL.....HELL they even caused a right wing splinter group in Buddhism the 969 with their intolerance to the culture of their host nations and violence towards the indigenous population.
Islam has always had bloody borders and always will.
Quote"...... it seems muslims are all tarred with the same brush because of two maniacs actions."
You would be entirely correct if it was just two maniacs.
But you have the likes of Anjem Choundry walking about openly not condemning the actions but making excuses for it.
The wider muslim community does not appear to openly come out and condemn Mr Choundry over this event and countless others.
It needs the leaders, the imams of these communities to get together and openly condemn the action. But they do not. There inaction speaks louder than words.
It would not take much for the muslim council of Britain to hold a press conference allowing questions about recent events.
It is not just about the killing. It goes so much deeper. It is what the killing represents.
Most Irish were viewed as terrorists in the 70's and early 80's. How do you think they managed to get away with fitting up the guildford 4 or Birmingham 6 ? Because they were Irish people automatically assumed they were guilty which allowed the police to frame them.
Its also different because the IRA conflict (in very basic terms) was about freeing a certain nationality from British rule. Therefore an Italian catholic would not be viewed with the same suspicion as an Irish catholic.
Hello Joseph,
It's not that Muslims are being tarred with the same brush because of the recent events with Lee Rigby.
Nearly all Brits and indeed non Muslims across the world view Muslims with great suspicion because of their terrorist activities worldwide.
The vast majority of Muslims are law abiding and peaceful people but it is the minority who spoil it for the rest, as is the case for most evil activities.
I don't blame the world for being suspicious of Muslims because history is constantly telling us what Muslim extremists are capable of.
The first thing that should happen is that Muslim countries should put their own houses in order by re-vamping many of their own laws.
One example is:
A Muslim woman was gang raped by 14 Muslim men in Saudi Arabia. All were prosecuted and found guilty and were give ludicrous sentences of 1 to 5 years.
The victim was sentenced to 200 lashes and 6 months gaol for mixing with the 14 morons.
Britain is constantly being taken to the Court of Human Rights for very often the smallest thing or because a prisoner thinks his human rights have been violated.
Why are these countries who flagrantly flaunt human rights and the whole world knows about it but never taken to court?
Although I am not Catholic I feel you are doing the exact opposite of tarring Muslims with the same brush as Catholics.
There is no comparison with Muslim terrorism and the Catholic faith.
The main concern I have with the Catholic religion is the archaic law that a priest must remain celibate and is not permitted to marry and have children, This in my opinion is the main reason there are so many Catholic priests who are paedophiles and prey on the young.
Poseidon
PS Incidentally I am not a Muslim and am an out and out Brit.
No, but your question in a strange way hits the nail squarely on the head.
In this country we have had it too easy, the politicians with their nice little earners on the side,
the bankers with their we win you lose casino gambling,
and us the general public with our love for easy credit allowing us to live beyond our means,
yep all of us, we've all had it too easy for far too long, and nobody has wanted to rock the boat.
I think the Americans have a saying for it, it called "kicking the can".
If the powers that be had treated the radical element of the Catholic population the same way as the they have treated the radical element of the Muslim population, then to some extent I think a sizable minority of the people of this country would have considered Catholics to be potential terrorists.
And we all know the reason why Catholics weren't treated the same was as Muslims were or are being treated, its the elephant in the room, Catholics are mainly white and Muslims are mainly none white and its as simple as that.
If you have a problem and refuse to face it for whatever reason, nine times out of ten it will get worse and come back and bite you on the @rse, it won't go away, and this is what has happens it has got worse and come back and bit us on the @rse.
The warning signs were there and sadly for all to see, yet were they heeded, no.
Sometimes you have to be a bastard, its not nice but sometimes you have to be.
We have a shared history of over a thousand years with the irish and irish is the key word here not catholic. The IRA were stopped only when the victims started to fight back and that is what most sensible ordinary people in Britain are demanding we do with muslims.Muslims will never integrate with ordinary people like the Irish have done.It is perfectly reasonable for British people to ask for muslims to be prevented from settling here and the most dangerous ones sent home.
Thats a little extreme. While all IRA terrorist is catholic obviously all catholics are not terrorists. While many do spread hate and the religion is quite bizarre I know some decent kind nice catholics.
Is it too hard for the asker to try and understand that groups like the EDL ARE only interested in the extremist Muslim. Why on earth do you think they care about every small shop keeper, ever taxi driver. The truth is they aren't.
The same applies to the Irish Catholics. There is little problems with any of them these days, but even at the worst of the "troubles" the ordinary Catholic in the street had nothing to do with the evil ones.
I didnt read that list of terrorist incidents, but i recall Bush claiming the support of God and invading Iraq.
Tony Blair supported this but it was only after leaving office that it was obvious that he claimed to be a catholic.
and the squabbles amongst the Christian religious in Ireland are well known.
Not all of course; but there were many Catholics who helped the IRA by hiding guns, having safe houses and supporting the cause. Is this not a similar situation with Muslims insofar many in the UK support their brothers?
As with both, they all knew or know what is happening and did nothing then, or have done little now to denounce them. The main reason then, as now, is that they support them.
In the same vein that "muslims" are rapey bomby nutters (According to right wing numpties) would the edl consider catholicism a threat to national security/identity? IRA has much more of a history blasting the bejesus out of the uk and yet it seems muslims are all tarred with the same brush because of two maniacs actions.
The problem starts with the leaders. Can you name a religion that teaches tolerance for what other people believe? Most religions preach, 'Those who don't believe what you do are bad people and they will be punished because of it'.
Stand back or I'll throw me dynamite! O sod, it's a candle. Fr O'Malley might be in for a surprise when he gets the church ready in the morning.
You might as well ask to consider every human a terrorist.
To you, who thinks all Muslims are painted with the same broad, hateful brush, well you're wrong!
Don't be ridiculous so that means half of our country in Ireland is by your logic.... what about the british soldiers who were shooting innocent people on a peaceful march in bloody sunday, children & women shot in the back as they walked away & yet those soldiers got medals for bravery, up until recently the truth was hidden by those soldiers lying & people at the very top lying... two sides to every story ...but Ireland will have our full Island back in next 10 to 15 years by peaceful means as u.k. sick of subsiding it for millions every year..it is people in the north of Ireland that are dealing with the issues , us in the republic are too busy leading our lives to be obsessed with politics..maybe those should consider before they send their armies in to blow the crap out of civilians Edit..joseph you are trolling anyway so how dare you call us terrorists, look at who was causing all the trouble up the north for a few mths a while back & who will do the same in few weeks ..they are the ones who do not want compromise..
No. But sadly a majority of those who post on here are racists and bigots.
If you dare to slag off teh BNP or EDL you get abuse and TDs.
Sorry state of affairs.
If every time there was a terrorist attack or a terror attack that was stopped, and they were all planned by a Catholic, yes.
I hope not because I'm one ( Catholic) lol
I reject that, people on the right know only to well islamists are responsible for terrorism. two? there's hundreds in prison and according to the home secretary thousands radicalised still on our streets..
No, but then their religion doesn't repeatedly tell them to kill unbelievers, and they don't shout "Hail Mary" and then commit atrocities.
No of course not....just stupid is all.....anyway think you might be thinking of Muslims..
I wouldn't, some would though if they applied the "Logic" they use with Islam...
