Will the media start blowing shootings out of proportion?

1) the media will always take recent events into account. that goes for a republican senator drink driving or a school shooting.

2) as with any event, first accounts are always confused and you cant just say 'it was just two people shooting at each other'. hindsight may be 20/20, but - unless you have the power of prophecy - you cant use it to make decisions

3) i think there is something wrong with people when we can just say 'it was only 2 armed people shooting at each other' and expect everyone to just write it off.

there were students at the Uni, leaving brown stains on their shorts, who probably aren't as blase about it as you are

4) your whole premise seems to be 'dont worry it was only a couple of nutcases, not a psychopath'.....well, that explanation doesnt not make me happy, and it just shows up what a seriously F'd up place your mind inhabits

The media already blows mass shootings way out of proportion. But the media is not interested in one-on-one shootings, only in mass shootings because the shock value is higher. There are about two shootings a day in Chicago that result in a fatality, yet you never hear about these, since most involve gangs and thugs. the media is not interested in pursuing shootings of this nature because they are far too frequent and the shock value would wear away to nothing in a week or so.

The media have already started blowing shootings out of proportion.

We are getting questions from Y!A users outside the US, thinking the Lone Star incident was another huge massacre! Nobody was even killed.

Yes, I do think the media are pushing us to accept restrictions on firearms.

I wish they would take the more humanitarian approach. The rampage massacres are almost exclusively carried out by mentally ill people who were known to be dangerous, but their families and associates had been unable to get them committed to hospital. What we need is a better system to get help to those mentally ill people who are dangerous to themselves or others, but are too irrational to understand they need help.

It's the media's job to blow things out of proportion.

The real question here is this: how many nutcases abusing guns will it take before folks like you understand that maybe the 2nd amendment is as stupid as the 18th?

"will"?

They already started.

Last year there was a shooting at a college that was way worse than the one that occurred today yet it didn't make the national news despite 5 people being killed.

Then today, a vague story about "Shots fired at a Texas university" makes national news even though it's not even clear how many people, if any, were killed or even shot.

the prize of disarming the people is too important to back off on the propaganda.

Don't get me wrong, sandy hook was a tragedy worthy of the attention. This most current shooting involves two people arguing and decided to handle things wrongly. It was not a sandy hook style attack. Will they start covering small town shootings the same way they have lone star? They are doing all they can to destroy the second amendment because of a few cowardly morons.
