The monarchy is an extremely popular institution for very good reasons, so I can't see it not continuing for many generations to come.
The alternative to a monarch is a political head of state and that is a much more unpleasant prospect. political heads of state are worse for international relations and are divisive domestically. They are also much more expensive. During presidential election campaigns there is no effective head of state at all, which is unsettling.
Why replace someone who has had a lifetimes training to do the job with a self serving political animal.
Contrary to the opinions of uneducated comedians, the Monarchy is a democratic institution. Monarchs can easily be replaced by parlaiment if they do meet the grade. The Queen has accepted many changes during her reign, some more willing than others. Charles has already expressed a wish to make even more concessions should he succeed to the throne.
It must also be remembered that the Queen is also a popular head of state of other independent countries.
==========================
It is worth pointing out that a number of democracies including Spain and Japan elected to reinstate the monarchies having had bad experience with presidential systems.
If United Kingdom broke up it would not weaken the monarchy, although it has been suggested that a member of the royal familly might be chosen by Scotland to have its own dynasty.
More of a threat would have been a genuine European political Union. Britain has virtually destroyed the whole European integregration project by succeeding in expanding the union to include Eastern Europe. The chances of closer European political Union are now about as likely as France accepting English as its national language.
Another possible threat to the monarchy is excessive media intrusion. Their might come a time when an entire generation of Royals don't fancy the baggage that comes with the job. I think that unlikely, but it is not impossible.
No it will not die. In the first place it has been around for a long , long time. In second place people are aware that it is useful to have a head of state who is above the political in fighting-- it is neutral and protecting the best interests of the country. The armed forces are loyal to the monarch so no nonsense about a possible coup ! In moments of crisis the monarchy acts as source of unity. The Queen will be suceeded by her son. Then , in time , he will be suceeded by his son !
I think it will continue a little longer at least. The Royal family still have a fair amount of supporters and enough involvement in the way the country is run to be viewed as important. I have a couple of relatives who still think that they are a symbol of an ideal family - sort role models and official faces of our country. I think it will die relatively soon though.
Who really gives a sweet crap. The queen has been around a long time and next in line just might be there for a longer period. It is of course interesting to know she is really just a plain old figure head while many ot seem that overly friendlyas compared to the two young princes whom get out more and see the people.
Why should the British Monarchy end anymore than Japan's Chrysanthemum Throne, or as we Yanks are prone to say....."the 'Queen' of France?"
you must be an american to ask such a question,unlike your constitution,our constitution has been running now for nearly one thousand years and we could not end the monarchy if we wanted to when our queen passes on prince charles will be crowned as king of england,and when he passes on prince william and queen catherine will be our king and queen,and their first born will go on to be the next sovereign and so it goes on ok.
Highly unlikely. Thankfully there are still enough of 'us' to hopefully prevent this. And why is Catherine being 'groomed' so hard, if they remotely expected this to happen?
What an idiotic person you are mate.. A complete 1st class plank.
