I agree with you. There was a public high school in a very wealthy part of LA and the parents asked that the students wear uniforms because each student would try to out dress another and it was costing the parents a fortune and these were wealthy people. Why they couldn't just say no to their spoiled children is a mystery to me. Uniforms make sense and for all the reasons you stated. You are supposed to be learning and preparing for life not walking the runway!

Typically, private (religious) schools have uniforms and secular/public (and some secular private) schools do not.
< to me personally.>>
I agree. The uniforms promote discipline and equality in human dignity.
< in the States?>>
In the States, it's only the private religious schools that have uniforms. The public schools do not.

Unfortunately, that kind of "discipline" is politically incorrect. . . if you can imagine.
Having said that, the advantage of private schools, uniforms, etc, has not gone unnoticed. In American private religious schools tend to offer a much better education than public schools do. People with the means usually try and send their children to private religious schools for that reason.

Constitutionally, I don't think uniforms in public schools could be enforced, as it could be argued that it infringes on one's Freedom of Expression. . . I know, even I think that's crap, but that IS the prevailing argument.
I live in Australia and all our schools have uniforms. In fact it is compulsory to wear them.
I will never wear a uniform to school
I agree with you.
I went to an all Catholic girls pre school, primary school, secondary school and jr college and we always had uniforms and specific shoes that we had to wear, specific socks, hair tied in a certain way, no make up, nail polish etc. I think it was very beneficial to me personally. I can see how some people might think it is too strict Why don't they enforce uniforms in schools in the States? It might decrease bullying(people all dress the same so you cannot differentiate who is wealthy and who isn't), it looks neat, not revealing and kids will focus on school more.
Just wondering though, do you think uniforms should be enforced? Why or why not, no rude answers please. Thanks :)
