He did his "peaceful" protests while India was under British rule. The Brits didn't care..they wanted out of the welfare state called India. If India had been occupied by Hitler, or Stallin. or Mao, Gandhi would have blocked a truck and been shot to death immediately. No one would have ever heard of him.
