Those of us who remember the Royal Navy straying into hostile waters in the Persian Gulf - 8 surrendered, 8 captured, one cried. The shame of it. The Royal Australian Navy too found themselves straying off course on the same waters, the same happened, but this time the RAN told them, when challenged, to "Fcuk off". Priceless.
Here as some little known fact's.
WW1 Australian General Monash (who happened to be Jewish) created Blitzkrieg warfare.
He was the first General to concentrate artillery, tanks, aircfaft, crack troops to attack a specific point on the German line of defense and to exploit a breakthrough.
Sound familiar?
In WW2 it was the Australian Army at Tobruk who were the first Army to withstand Rommel's Blitzkrieg.
They dug their trenches and waited for the Panzers and infantry to roll over them and then had the British Anti-tank gun's facing inwards to hit the Panzers in the rear.
Now that takes gut's in anyones book.
Hence they were the first Army in the world to withstand the feared German Blitzkrieg.
In New Guinea it was once again the Australian Army to hold off the undefeated Japanese advance on Port Moresby.
Yes the Japanese supply lines were stretched to breaking point so the Army, within sight of Port Moresby were forced to begin the long retreat back along the Kokoda track.
And the Aussies followed and harrassed them the entire way.
So once again it was the Australian Army to be the first to break the image of Japanese invincibility.
In Vietnam the NVA and VC widely regarded the Aussies as the best troops they faced.
They were the first to discover the extensive tunnel network the enemy had built.
They recieved Presidential Unit Citations for their actions.
Rather than fight a conventional war as the US forces had been trained, the Aussies out guerillaed the guerilla
The Australian SAS were highly feared by the enemy, calling them the 'Ghost's of the Jungle.'
So what do I think of the Australian military, we are a Defence force that has always fought above our weight division.
Take us on at your peril ;)
They are soldiers of the Queen and not an American state.
they are based on the British army which may not be the biggest in the world, but by jingo they are the best!
I am enclosing a link. Of course the Queen is Australias head of state Australias army is one of the best,of course.
They rightfully pride themselves on being one of the best in the world but then their military is based on ours so it would have to be .
The Australian military is awesome, well trained and deadly.
Australia have a very very competent military indeed. i have a great deal of respect for them and their capabilities and attainments. i have also experienced a great deal of crosstraining with them in our sister units
Good
as an modern military and compared to other country's
