I so wish the asker had thought to spare a moment to tell me what their neighbourhood was.? On an international site it could be anywhere on the globe.
I am in the UK and we did have a strange unexplained noise a few weeks ago.This could be the same where-ever you are ? Listen to your local radio station.
I heard the same thing in March this year, I was 90% certain that they were gun shot sounds and notified the police. They asked me if there was anyone outside in the street and I told them I wouldn't leave my garden/house.
Over here, in Italy at this time of year, it's normally some tw@t with a shotgun killing sparrows...

I heard a loud bang in my neighborhood about 5 minutes ago and don't know what it is. I thought it was a Gunshot or Gas Bottle and it was definitely not fireworks. Please Help.
