Believe me, the US would absolutely love to invade Syria, kill tens of thousands of people, and bomb the country's infrastructure back into the stone age. They would love to force a puppet regime onto the Syrian people and to humanitarially drop a cluster bomb on every house, school and hospital in the country.
By destroying Syria, the US would be able to strike a heavy blow against Hezbollah, Iran, Russia and China. They would be able to dramatically change the landscape of the Middle East and expand their interests, as well as those of their friends in Israel and the Gulf.
The only problem is, Syria's air defenses are 5 times more sophisticated than the ones in Libya. They have a large, well trained military that possesses some of the most advanced anti-air missiles in the world (S-300), as well as advanced radar systems. They have a government that has a broad base of support and that is firmly established and entrenched in all the institutions and the society. And they have the direct protection of Russia and Iran, with whom they have a mutual defense treaty.
The United States doesn't want to start World War 3 just yet, so for now they'll have to continue arming and funding terrorist groups inside Syria in hopes that the Syrian army will someday just give up on defending their country.
The recent Houla massacre is a prime example of the horrific acts US-armed US-funded terrorist groups like the "Free Syrian Army" are willing to commit against innocent civilians.

Libya already recieved a "humanitarian intervention", and look where it got them. 50,000 dead, a country in ruins, no functioning infrastructure or institutions, armed militias fighting in the streets, thousands of people rotting in secret prisons, people getting kidnapped and tortured every day by the new "democratic" government, thousands displaced from their homes, and regions threatening to declare independece and split the country into pieces.
West have created this drama, they are sending the terrorists in syria from neighbor countries like Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc so that they can kill people, blame on government then West can intervene, same people who fought in Libya/iraq/afghanistan before are in syria too now. Question is.. Why so many outsiders????? If syrians hates Assad they can remove him themselves! To all those who think that people are not able to remove by themselves should refer to the revolution of Philippines which was against there dictator Ferdinand Marcos, to Pakistanis who did against there dictator Pervez Musharraf, more to name.
