This event, which at first seemed like a minor break-in at a hotel most people outside of Washington had never heard of, literally changed the course of history.
Without Watergate, Jimmy Carter never becomes President. He was elected because he was a complete Washington outsider, and after Watergate, that appealed to people. If Carter's not President, does Ronald Reagan win in 1980? And so on....
It's almost impossible to know what would be different now if Watergate had never happened (or, if those involved had never been caught.)
The only sad incident was Nixon waving goodbye from the plane's steps.
Everything else was so extremely entertaining. I was barely a teenager then, and most of what I know is from what I read after wards.
Whatever you can say about it, it should not go without saying that those were true, full blooded American men who in one way or the other were fighting for their country (in their own country, by the way!). Now, we have so many different ethnicity and gender issues, within all government agencies, departments and offices, that everyone seems to blame all the problems on white men. This was bound to happen at one point or the other, but the truth is that it was white men who made this country what it now is and we just might need some of them to return to higher offices and/ or at least to make this country grow economically again.
PLEASE, don't misinterpret me, for I am not a man, nor considered "white" by those same men who created the rules or the race categories in this country. I am just a somewhat observant person, who though not in favor of many rules and regulations in this country, do know that all the power it has in the world was created ONLY by white American men, whether we like it or not.
yes it started but still it took a couple years for him to resign in 1974
Agnew resigned right away and then Ford took his place and when Nixon resigned Ford took over becoming the firs t President that wasnt elected to either President or Vice President
Yeah - All The President's Men is a great movie !
The 37th President Richard Milhous Nixon was forced to resign for his involvement in the scandal.
