When UN intervened in the crisis of congo many years ago UN soldiers were involved in handing over a much loved leftist leader to the rebels to be tortured and killed(A report actually says he was killed by a Belgian firing squad to which Belgium is a UN member)
UN created more problems for Libyans and was completely biased in Libya intervention on a no fly zone and used NATO to remove Gadaffi and encouraged rebel to supply them indirectly by France (A UN Veto member) and got Gadaffi brutally tortured and killed. Libya now does not have a National army which was destroyed by the rebels and NATO under the UN umbrella. Libya is now ruled by militias according to the areas . However the Libyan oil is quietly being pumped out be western oil companies which makes a few leaders in Tripoli and Benghazi rich.
UN could have stopped the Rwanda genocide when Hutu's went after them and killing them in thousands using machetes when it had a military Presence there because USA said no
In Lebanon invasion by Israel UN forces in south Lebanon did not stop the Israelis going up to Beirut and helping the Falangists to massacre ;Palestinian civilians at Sabra camp because USA opposed UN forces stopping Israeli tanks rolling through Lebanon up to Beirut
How ever UN was prevented in military intervention in Syria because Russia and China opposed If they had intervened they would be biased against the regime in Damascus.
One reason has to do with 5 nations having a veto in the security council for starters. Another has to do with the fact that even thou most of the countries in the UN hate the US and routinely vote against us we pay 25% of the dues. That means roughly 180 countries pay 75% while 1 pays 25%. Imagine how much money the UN would have if all 180 countries paid an average of a tenth the amount as the US? When the UN was set up the USSR got 3 votes on the UN floor while all other countries only got 1.
Taking into account the vetos& different politics of the powerful/rich countries this is the best we have come up with -religion & race also hold back the dream of a truly united world !---one day one day ?
Proposition: The UN should be permanently moved to Atlantis and find funding from another country besides the US.
Does anybody have any ideas for this debate topic!
I want to talk about the history of the United Nations and how it has ultimately failed.
If anybody has any information on the UN's formation, its history and its failures i would really appreciate it!
Thanks :)
