Now imagine instead of your family pet, it's your Grandma. She's very old and very sick, and in a lot of pain. She wants to die to get rid of the pain. However her doctors won't let her. They say it's their duty to try every possible treatment to keep her alive, even though it's not going to cure her, or improve her quality of life. All it will do is run up her medical bills (which your family will have to pay) and keep her alive - but not in a good way. They also say this is the humane thing to do.
So tell me. Why is it considered humane to end the suffering of a pet, but humane to prolong the suffering of a human?
Please understand that I am against euthanasia but I will give you (to me ridiculous) reasons for it as requested.
As a person ages, his/her medical bills rise. Killing them will increase the money available to the rest of us.
Old people are a drain on the economy. They get social security payments which only go to increasing the debt. Killing them will restore balance to the social security account. The mentally challenged (retarded or crazy) drain resources from the rest of us so we should kill them.
At his point, I am totally bummed out and have to stop. As I said, I am opposed to euthanasia. I lost too many relatives to the concept as practiced by the Nazis during WW ll.
This is a very sensitive subject. However you feel personally you might take a moment to consider why we end the suffering of our dumb animal friends when they are incurably ill, and yet prolong the suffering until nature takes its course for our nearest & dearest. Of course, human life is more precious than an animal's but shouldn't that be an argument in favour of euthanasia? Ending someone's life is a decision I hope never to have to take, but denying the person dignity at the end of their life is, in my view, more about those who are left than about the patient. Safeguards, some of which I cannot even imagine, must be both in place and enforced rigorously by independent organisations if euthanasia is ever enshrined in law, but I fear that the unscrupulous and the sanctimonious will ensure that this never happens. I wish you luck in your class endeavours. You'll need it!
Ask your parents to take you out of that dumb school and put you in a sensible one.
HOW SICK IT IS FOR THEM to assign you something you might not believe in. Rest assured, they are a bunch of liberal scoundrels.
I am doing a debate for my civics class and the topic I was given was euthanasia. My debate statement is "Euthanasia should be allowed". I was given the affirmative side (meaning I am for it), this does not mean I actually believe this, I was given this side by my teacher. Could anyone give me a good statement about why euthanasia should be allowed? Can you also please tie in the Terri Schiavo case or any case that has caused controversy on euthanasia? Thanks . PLEASE NO NEGATIVE STATEMENTS, THIS IS A SCHOOL PROJECT AND NOT REALLY HOW I FEEL. I'M IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. Thank you.
