Pope Benedict has also made some very unpopular comments, such as saying only abstinence could prevent AIDS...at a time when health officials have been trying for the past 15 years to get Africa to use condoms. AIDS is an epidemic over there, where it's literally decimated entire generations. Just as the social programs were starting to change the people's perceptions and behaviors, the Pope makes this statement and literally sets the whole effort back to square one. Well done.
Between the scandals, statements, and everything else, he just isn't a popular Pope and he knows it. By resigning I do think he hopes to distance the Church from these problems. Meanwhile, it's hoped that by allowing someone younger, more modern to become Pope, the Church's image will improve as it moves into the 21st century.
No, of course not. There is no doubt that the Pontiff is resigning because of his failing health and the need of the Church for a younger Pope with the energy to lead the Church. What people should remember is almost all of the pedophile accusations the incidents occurred long before Pope Benedict became Pope. The facts are that Catholics are aware of the efforts and policies that Pope Benedict has instituted to make the Church the safest place for children. Even safer than their own homes. We praise him for these accomplishments. If all bishops had the same disgust for the actions of a few priests as Pope Benedict this scandal would have been handled decades ago when the incidents alledgedly occurred.
The effect on devout Catholics is that we have been blessed with a Pope who was capable of addressing the problems of the Church from the pedophile problem to secularism and all the other isms that threaten mankind and the Church. It has truly been a blessing for me to be alive at a time that there has been such a great man leading the Church as it has encouraged me to know that Pope Benedict was the right man at a critical time to lead the Church and that means to me that the Holy Spirit is in control choosing our leaders. As a result of his efforts and policies the Church is growing in most of the world the exception being Europe which continues to embrace secularism. The seminaries are full in much of the world again and the Church is restored to the moral path that is its mission to the world ordained by Christ. God bless!

Always go for the truth.........http://cnsblog.wordpress.com/category/pa... are many lies and distortions placed upon the Church by the? world and the evil spirits that prowl it. So we must proclaim the truth loudly! Pope Benedict XVI outstanding ! This is why the internet and new media are so important. The version of "reality" that the old media manufacture is so distorted that it's mostly secular? fantasy.
Vatican officials released a pair of unusual statements Saturday condemning some press coverage of the papal transition.Deploring “gossip, misinformation and sometimes slander”
Catholic ?
The Pope abdicated due to poor health, and frailty, and not being able to continue his duties, only.
The devout Catholics will remain devout, there is no doubt about this!
In my pinion, more should be done to identify pedophiles in the priesthood, and an end must be made to unmarried priests, NOW.
So what - its just another political job opening.....
And at one point in past history were not some Popes married(?)
We can only rely on the news so which one to choose and make our commitment is up to our consciousness

Thanks for reading sir
fact is true
Considering all the negative press in past years concerning pedophile priests, does anyone think these have had an influence on the resignation of the Pope or is it only because he's aged and in ill health? What effect has all of this had on the population of devout Catholics throughout the world?
