Missing children? Does the alert system need to be improved?

Do some research.

There is NO facility to INSTANTLY close borders which do not exist, the EU is an openUnion of countries.

Which language or languages would you use on your ALERT signs.

The amber alert system in the States only really works with any degree of success where the "abductor" is known as is their car number.

The McCann children were indeed treated appalingly, "parents" leaving them alone in an unlocked apartment night after night while they went drinking with their equally neglectful friends...

There's no need for me to write any negative comments about the McCanns. Plenty has already been written about them on the internet to prove that they aren't as squeaky clean as the British press maintain them to be. Do your own research and you will come to the conclusion that NO alert system would have been effective in this case.

Maybe a good idea would be to implant electronic chips such as are used for pets, sounds daft I know but at least they could pin down just where a missing child is and the chips could be removed at a certain age.

Just an idea

Maybe we should adopt the Amber alert system that exists in the US? It is only partly rolled out in the UK as far as I am aware.

I could swear you asked exactly the same question yesterday...

For my GCSE English Discussion and Listening Controlled assessment i am planning on doing something on Missing children and the need for an improved alert system. It is alarming how many children go missing each year i really feel we need an improved alert system in Europe. I am not quite sure what the current one is.... but it is useless. I think that if we had a system that when a child goes missing... IMMEDIATELY pictures are sent across the country and borders are shut off ... there is no place for the child/abductor to escape. And people would be able to find them a lot quicker and get the child back to the rightful parents. I also believe that with a system like this it would decrease the number of child abductions as people would realise that the police ARE GOING TO ACT QUICKLY if they try.

I also intend to bring the mccann's into my talk and how their situation was dealt with (appallingly!!) I know everyone has different views on the mccanns (personally i think the abduction is all true) but the fact of how the police dealt with the situation remains the same. I also am going to bring up names of missing children that many people have never even heard of to highlight how many missing children have been forgotten by everyone but their families.

So what do you think? Has anyone got any other ideas? Any information about current alert systems? And any statistics .... especially for europe/uk??

PLEASE no negative comments about the Mccanns or missing children. If you can't write anything helpful... dont write anything at all.

Thank you :)
