I am confused about events leading up to 9/11?

Prior to 9/11, hijackings of airplanes were for political reasons. Either the hijackers wanted fellow terrorists released from prison, and/or they wanted money and transportation to a friendly country. No one had ever used a plane as a suicide missile before. As a result, the internationally accepted method for dealing with hijackers was: Stay calm, cooperate, don't fight back.

So when the hijackers acted on 9/11, the crew and passengers just assumed that was what was going on. They didn't know what the hijackers were planning that day. They didn't know there were other planes.

People on the 4th plane, which was the one that was targeting DC, were getting cellphone calls about the other 3 hijacked planes crashing into the WTC and Pentagon. They figured their plane was also heading towards another target. It was at this time some of the passengers decided to fight back. They managed to overpower the hijackers in the cabin, and make their way into the cockpit. While fighting with the terrorists who were flying the plane, the plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

All aircraft are equipped with a device called a Black Box. The black box records information about the plane's position, status of the equipment, and all dialog in the cockpit. The black box is extremely durable, and is designed to survive high speed impacts, explosions and fire. The first thing investigators of a plane crash do is look for the black box. This gives them information about what was happening in the plane before the crash. The black boxes from all 4 planes were successfully recovered.

As for the weapons the terrorists used, they used box cutters, which are a type of small bladed knife. Prior to 9/11 you were allowed to bring short blades under 3" onto the aircraft. That would have included the box cutters. In addition the terrorists had legitimate ID and other documentation. They were not on any sort of government watch list or no-fly list. The people at the airport had no reason to suspect, let alone detain, any of the terrorists.

Knowing the crew nor passengers would not fight back, it's not as though the terrorists needed a very deadly weapon. Once they took control of the plane, one of the terrorists went into the cockpit of each plane, killed the pilot and co-pilot, and pointed his plane at his target.

Today, it would be impossible for another 9/11 to occur. For one thing, the cockpit doors are now reinforced steel, and lock from inside the cockpit. This means hijackers cannot force their way in. For another, any one stupid enough to try to hijack a US plane today will not have the benefit of a compliant crew and passengers. Instead they're going to be facing 100s of people who are going to attack, fighting tooth and nail to put the hijackers in as much pain as possible. I imagine even the nice little old lady who had to go through "enhanced screening" would even be willing to take a few whacks at the hijackers' heads with her handbag.

Most of what we know that happened on the planes after they were hijacked comes from phone calls from the passengers and flight attendants. Some called their loved ones and a few of the flight attendants managed to call emergency services and relay a lot of information.

The only weapons that had with them were knives, and some of them had box cutters. The problem was, back then, that wasn't really considered a big deal. Small blades were not really seen as threatening and airport security was much more relaxed then that it is now. The employees who checked the hijackers before they boarded reported nothing unusual, and for the time period, the way the hijackers boarded really wasn't unusual.

Because of what happened that day, airport security is much more serious. They would never have been able to board with knives or box cutters now. And hopefully no one can force their way into the cockpit either. But it was all too easy then. They knew what the loopholes were in our security and they exploited it.

Look up an abridged version of the 9/11 Commission Report. It gives a good run down of all this and much more, in detail.

1 the passengers were all told that this was a highjacking, expecting to land and then they would demand money. One plane the passengers did fight back the Penn crash, flight 93?

2 Some People called from their cell phones to their homes & family.

3 security was not that strict then, security got tougher because on the 9-11 hijackings. You would have ever considered a box-cutter razor a deadly weapon, you can buy them at any hardware store or CVS.

4 Besides the call phone calls, the hijackers turned on their radio by mistake, so the were heard talking to each other and the passengers.

5 Not sure what you are asking, the hijackers ALL took flying lessons then plotted to take cross country jet, those with the largest fuel loads, to cause the most amounts of fires where they crashed.

.

Back then it was easy to get weapons on a plane. The security measures that exist today didn't exist at that time. Passengers on the planes used cell phones to contact their loved ones and let them know what was happening. On the first two planes that hit the towers, it happened almost immediately after take off. So the passengers had no time to fight back. Not sure about the one that hit the pentagon, as there are very few documentations available. On the fourth plane that crashed into the ground, apparently that was supposed to hit the white house, but the passengers fought the hijackers and lost control of the plane.

There is just too much evidence now that suggests an inside job: the fact that most of the 'hijackers' are still alive, the fact that no jets were scrambled in time; that no significant plane debris was found at the pentagon site (planes do not vaporize!); that the buildings seem to be demolished, especially building 7; that jet fuel cannot melt steel, even though molten steel was seen; that the first responders heard explosions within the buildings before they collapsed etc...

-WTC leaseholder Larry Silverstein admitted that building 7 was pulled down by a controlled demolition:

The passengers in the plane to Pennsylvania did fight back. They all got killed. The people who planned the attacks, presumably Osama bin Laden and Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, were not on the planes. The U.S. pays people in other countries to find information for them. On the passenger plane there was a transponder which must have recorded the events that was recovered from the site. As far as getting weapons onto the plane, although screening for weapons has existed for at least 20 years that I recall, the hijackers weapons were box cutters which were allowed on.

Here is a good article from the British press about 9/11.

Phone calls were made by passengers or crew from all of the flights and we have CVR data from Fligth 93 so we do have at least some idea of what happened on board from first hand accounts.

The hijackers boarded with items that were legal at the time which included blades up to 4 inches long.

It's all in the 9/11 Commission Report.

Your research abilities leave much to be desired, as ALL of the questions you have asked have been published many times. If you are still confused, it's because you aren't looking at the correct sources of information or you choose not to believe that information.

Planes have recording system inside a container which is almost undestructible. So everything is recorded in these black boxes.

Sir. 9/11 is an inside job. thats it.

i have been googling the events leading up to 9/11 such as how the hijackers got on the plane, why didnt passengers fight back etc. and it is all very confusing to me.

for one thing how is anyone supposed to know any details of what happened on those four planes, if all the planes crashed and everyone died?

another thing is how did those hijackers get past security with weapons?

is there actually any evidence of what happened on those flights before they were crashed?

can someone please explain to me the events leading up to 9/11 on those flights! thank you so much, i am just really confused and was only 4 years old when all of this happened.

all the security you see now didn't exist then ?

there are some people that think it was a conspiracy.
