You're not paying attention, Pep. It's been announced by the USGS that there's a substantial abundance of coal, oil & natural gas right here in America. Just yesterday, on Yahoo News, there was an article that the U S is exporting more oil that Russia and has known reserves greater than Saudi Arabia. No OPEC country sells gasoline to their own people for more than a dollar. The Exports will lower all prices (everything moves on wheels), create more jobs (both in the industry & other places because of cheap energy), and pay down our deficit. For forty years, the Demoncrats have told us that we don't have oil, that we need more expensive green energy.

Romney promises fuel independence within 5 years.

A Presidential term last exactly 4 years...

Somehow, I don't think that's a coincidence.

I do know it's a pipe dream.

Canada is America's largest single-nation fuel provider.

The US gets more oil from Canada than it buys from all Middle East countries combined.

The US can't build enough new oil tankers in 5 years to compensate for that.

The US can't build enough refineries or drilling operations within 5 years, either.

The US can't increase shale oil production enough for independence in 5 years, either.

And while Canada's the biggest, it's not the only fuel provider to the US.

-America buys oil from dozens of nations worldwide.

So Mitt's telling tall tales if he thinks 5 years is possible.

Hell, EPA environmental impact assessments will take longer than that to complete.

It'll take longer still to settle court challenges from environmentalists and others.

Like the Not In My Back Yard crowd who won't want new oil operations anywhere near theirs.

fuel independence for America within 5 years?

Yes that is possible if the number of cars is reduced by 90%.

Since that will not happen there are other ways to reach fuel independence but not it just 5 years.

The USA has lots of coal. It is possible to turn coal into oil. The problem is that it is very expensive and create vast amounts of green house gas.
